Somehow I have been getting Rolling Stone magazine for over 40 years. I first subscribed in college. And somehow for decades they sent me the magazine and never a bill. As I got older I became addicted to the political articles. In particular Matt Taibi helped me understand the bank collapse and gerrymandering and all the other crap that goes on. I still read about music , but the political articles kept me going. Finally years ago , they actually sent me a bill and I paid it.
Yesterdays issue came and beside the two political articles ....I was less than ambivalent. Today's popular music scene leaves me cold. Of the top 50 album and artists I was only interested in one. Rap, hip hop, and all its versions leave me cold. Rock has disappeared and I don't see the new Bob Dylan, Brucs Springsteen , John Mellancamp, or Neil Young.
So here is the question , I like artists singer songwriters that write about more than just their love life. Sure Adele is a great singer, but give me someone that speaks to your inner being like Bruce did in the 70s . I'm done with Rolling Stone. Can anyone direct me to a singer songwriter taking on today's mess in the us?
I listen to Phil Cook and the Guitar Heels and Ryan Gustafson from the Dead Tongues, so called Americana music. There is something being born there.
Yes we are waiting for a new messiah, a new Bob Dylan, where is he or she?
Yea! Where
Moby has social commentary in his music and video shorts. But his music is very techno and famous from raves.
Lol. Thank you . I guess I'm just old. Rappers have social commentary as well. I guess it just doesnt speak to me.
@Bigwavedave I’m a Gen X’er but love the music from the late 60s and 70s.
U2 is the only current band I follow.
