I'm one year cigarette free! I tried a few times to smoke one and it was so disgusting.

Well done. Keep it up. It gets easier the longer you have stopped.

Thank you all! It feels so good!

@Shouldbefishing When you quit for yourself? Yup that's when it finally stuck for me.

@Shouldbefishing this February will be one year for me . Vaping did the trick . It's worth a try . I smoked for 30 plus years , I thought I will never stop .

@Shouldbefishing At least 10 years. Maybe 15? It was on and off. Up to 1 1/2 packs a day (they were much cheaper then). I'm fortunate that I was left with no lasting ills from that. (So far anyway).

But I can get a heck of a case of bronchitis when I get a cold or flu? I'm really glad I stopped when I did. My BIL developed colon cancer and it moved to his lungs? Watching him with that? It made me quit for me.

Also his roommate following the surgery on his lungs? Was dying of lung cancer and still smoking in a non-smoking hospital in a room with a patient on oxygen. I went postal like Shirley McClaine in "Terms of Endearment" only way worse. It was a "hold my purse" moment.
After that I was very determined.

Nowe get a CT SCAN for baseline make sure the carcinogens are NOT growing

Bravo . Cheers to a better life ♥️

Congratulations. I know how difficult that was. I am 26 years free this year. How did you do it? I had to quit alcohol because the drink and the cigarette together kept me hooked. It was awful. You need to be very proud of yourself. Your health will improve now. Yippee!

Good job!

I quit 31 years ago. I was smoking 3 packs a day and suffering from repeated bouts of bronchitis. I can't believe I was ever that stupid to start. My father died of emphysema, my husband died of lung cancer and I'm asthmatic or rather I was asthmatic as a child. I don't know you either but I am very very proud of you. You've done yourself and the people around you a great big favor.

Congratulations! I'm proud of you.

Cigarettes killed my father (cancer) at age 51. I have asthma, after growing up with his horrible chain-smoking. In third grade, I vowed never to smoke or drink like him.

Also was born prematurely. Being a premie increased my change of getting adult-onset asthma by 35%.

Congratulations! I smoked my last cigarette in December of 1999. Cessation of an addictive but legal substance is a huge challenge and takes some serious self discipline. (I did it cold turkey.) Take a well-deserved bow and be proud of yourself!

Good for you! I quit in 2005. ONE time, a few years ago, I tried to smoke one more. It was terrible and my mouth tasted like a dirty sock for the rest of the day. Never going back!

2

That’s the best gift you could give yourself. Congratulations!

2

I don't even know you and I'm still proud of you. 👍

2

Good for you! I'm trying like hell to quit. The pills they give me don't work. I hate waking up every morn and coughing my lungs out. Keep it up!

2

i am glad for you and those around you! cigarettes killed my dad. my folks' smoking gave me asthma. finding a cig disgusting is a very good, rational sign that you are not going to relapse. you should be proud of yourself because that is quite an achievement. cig manufacturers go out of their way to enhance the addictive nature of their product, and you have gotten past that. that's not easy. mazel tov!

p.s. doesn't your food taste better now? 🙂)

@genessa

Same here. Cigarettes killed my father (cancer) at age 51. I have asthma because of his smoking,

Congratulations and I think you should go and buy yourself a present with all the money you saved.

@Bendog Make it two.

Good job beating BIG TOBACCO scams to force nicotine on you EVERYWHERE

I'm so happy for you. I've been quit for 7 years on April 11th. If you've tried them and don't want them, you've got it beat.

Congratulations! I have heard that it is so hard to quit. My husband tried several times, and he was so miserable. Do you have any advice for those trying to quit?

Congratulations! I'm proud of you and s littl jealous. going on 6 months myself. This is usually about the time I slip up. I'd be back to a pack a day the same day if I did.

Try some really deep breathing. That helped me. Stay clean!

Well done. I am a lucky one that always found it so disgusting I actually never tried.

As one who tends to get bronchitis when exposed to air pollution, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for quitting smoking. I often have to cross a street and/or hold my breath in order to avoid smokers. It is most ethical not to smoke in public (and not to litter cigarette butts all over the place). So, again, THANK YOU! 🙂
