Brrr. It is cold; 17 deg F. Time to put on another wool sweater. I collect wool things from the thrift shops. Seems like nobody wants to be bothered with them anymore. Wool is a natural fiber. Keeps you warm even when wet and will last just about forever, if you take care of it.

Sorry to hear that.
I love knitting with wool...I also buy used wool sweaters and felt them to make slippers, mittens, hats and other things...people claim to be allergic but it is the natural lanolin that they are probably bothered by...many young people are finding out that wool nappies are the best thing for their babies...they stay dry and comfortable and they can be washed hundreds of times...

@Spinliesel oh..that sounds like a book I would like...I mostly find the projects on the internet...I keep even the smallest of scraps because they also make wonderful needlebooks...
Yup. My prior/late wife was into primitive wool, such as that from Shetland Sheep. The natural colors and textures are particularly attractive. And the sheep themselves ... we knew a woman who had one as a house pet. Wagged its tail like a dog. Smarter than a dog, too. Not the dumb, docile domesticated sheep that can't care for its own young without assistance, or keep its tail form getting infected with its own shit. In a way, what we do in domestic breeding programs can be as cruel as how we house and feed and slaughter animals.

Good point about domestication. Turkeys in the wild are extremely bright, yet captive ones have drowned in the rain. We will never know about cattle. Or, oddly, guinea pigs which no longer exist in the wild. Etc.
The oldest sweater I have I spun and knitted from Islandic wool. It is just resting in a drawer now, still as good as new. Unfortunately I have grown in the horizontal direction since I knit that sweater thirty years ago.
@Beowulfsfriend Nutria are related to guinea pigs...they certainly are not docile and have a longer life span than the domesticated pets...guinea pigs are eaten in many countries, but not ours...your comment on turkeys made me smile...my grandfather had to keep the young turkeys inside during a rain storm...now I know why...
