My parents planted a beautiful cherry tree when I was 18...each year, my mom would send us kids a picture of her standing with that little tree when it was full of pink and white blossoms...the tree is now nearly 50 years old and dying...my brother lives in the house now and will chop it down this spring. He plans on planting another one for his grandkids to enjoy long after we are gone.
But be careful what kind of tree and where. A Eucalyptus can be a very fast grower and take over a space. [ecosia.org]
My favorite tree is the Monkey Puzzle tree. It is a slow growing hard wood pine from Chile (about 1' per year). Unfortunately it doesn't give a lot of shade and is particular where it grows. Oh and is absolutely NOT a tree for huggers (unless you like pain).
Too cold to plant anything. What's good in my is an understanding of the natural world around me.
