I only with you lived closer to me.

Sorry! So do I. It looks like you have lived in many places. I'll bet that is exciting. Still, repairs are pretty much the same no matter where you are. Keep me in mind if you need help with a project.

@kgoodyear Thanks

So what is Sheetrock? Also known as dry wall or wallboard panel consists of a layer of gypsum plaster sandwiched between two layers of paper. Invented in early 1900's it wasn't until after the war it grew in popularity.

There are different thicknesses but code usually requires 1/2" for residential use. Often, in commercial settings it needs to be 5/8 thick. There are at least a couple of kinds of Sheetrock one is water resistant and the other not. The water resistant is often called green wall because of the color of the paper on the outside. This green wall is what you would use under tile in a bathroom or around a kitchen counter.

Sheetrock is easily cut with a large T square and a utility knife. You will notice on a sheet of Sheetrock that the long edges are beveled. This is so one can tape and bed with mud between the sheets. Often people hang Sheetrock wrong. Sheetrock should be hung on the ceiling FIRST then the walls. Wall board should ALWAYS be started at the top and hung with the longest length horizontal. The next row should be offset from the top row by 1/.2. Often you will have some space at the bottom that will be covered by floor molding.

Any other questions about Sheetrock? let me know.;

This is so wonderful for you to do. There are so many great people on this site that offer to help others. I love this!!!!

I enjoy it more than getting into unproductive political argument.

Electrics...plastering I can do!

So is there a question here?

@kgoodyear please look at my previous post

@Amisja Sorry, just not seeing it . Go to this group and resubmit [agnostic.com]

@kgoodyear She posted this:

"My partner (junior school teacher...not very practical) fitted a new light fitting, now it won't turn off. (Its on a dimmer). Now the dimmer switch turns off the kitchen light and none of the other lights work. We are in UK so its different to US. We've checked all the wires and everything looks right. How can this have happened?"

@Sgt_Spanky, @Amisja Your best solution would be to stop now and hire a professional. In the states we have one hot wire and a neutral in UK you have 2 hot wires and no neutral or ground.

@kgoodyear Can't afford that.
