Choosing to make the mindless , more mindless still ...
We have to teach science and mythology side-by-side as if they are both science ?
Do not make the mistake of judging mythology as a lesser approach to our understanding of life and meaning. There should never be an effort to downplay the value of studies of mythology. The fact is that science and mythology are distinctly different, and the problem in our education system is that they are treated as though one is a substitute for the other. The problem arises when mythology is taught as if it is science. The scientific method has helped mankind advance in astounding ways over the centuries, and has been particularly productive in recent years, and teaching mythology as though it is science, is just ignorant. Both have crucial roles to play in our continuing efforts to understand ourselves and the universe.
@arbusto sorry, but if you've just bothered to read the article, your well intentioned defense of history would not sound hollow. The bill refers to the origins of humanity, and the science of it is undeniable and incontrovertible, Mythology is not a lesser approach, just a part of our history and should be taught only as such.
