Mike Pence can go fuck himself.
"Attacking christian education is deeply offensive."
Actually, Mikey, attacking christian education is exactly what we ALL need to be doing. As well as attacking ALL religious "education".
It's vile, it's wrong, and it violates human decency.
In the Roman Catholic Church we had CCD. That is the: "Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) an association established in Rome in 1562 for the purpose of giving religious education. Its modern usage is a religious education program of the Roman Catholic Church, normally designed for children. In some Churches, CCD is called PSR, meaning Parish School of Religion.".
I cannot tell you how batshit crazy most of those teachings were?
I finally left CCD when I went home from a class and told my Mum that the teacher - a woman in her own home - was telling us about being visited by a "spirit of fire" and "speaking in tongues" - that would have been a Pentacostal belief in the late 1970s.... and my Mom went "You're done!".
By then I'd undergone those wonderful rites of passage of First Communion - (Baptism of course - before I could talk) and Confirmation. Which I underwent completely against my will knowing how my parents would feel if I told them what I thought of the Church and their practices.
However kissing the Bishop's ring? Was NOT in the cards. (I can't believe I had classmates who did that?). Sigh.
I'd be so happy if religion became the sole practice of ADULTS tomorrow - I can't tell you?
No more sexual abuse of kids handed over to people you shouldn't be trusting in the first place.
No more false belief systems.
You want to get crazy - do it when you are an adult and can make the choice.
Bunch of Fecking... walks off muttering....
I was raised catholic, too. I hear you. They ALL suck.
@KKGator And they had a pedophile priest for the girls at one parish - and a pedophile priest for the boys at the other parish. (Didn't know about the one for boys until I was in my 20s and the grown men started coming forward). In fact I worked with the wife of one of the men. (She had a terrible year that year). Phew!
Don't get me started on anyone raising their kids in this religion KNOWING what went on in Boston and all over the World. I get rabid.
The really screwed up some lives. And were protected behind their walls for the most part.
Utterly ridiculous.
I too was raised catholic and went to those classes but my parnts ate it all up. I finally was able to get away when I went into the Marines at 18.
I haven't heard about this. I take it this was in reference to the Christian "education" of children, in which case indoctrination is a much better term. Theists like Pence know that if they don't indoctrinate children, they'll lose followers and what power it gives religious leaders. This is the aspect of religion that bothers me most. I consider it abuse, and a violation of basic human rights.
Pence's wife has gone to work for a private "christian school" that won't accept any LGBTQ students, or their parents.
Why are you so anti-christian? Yeah Christians are wrong about creation, but the Christians that ive known are the best people that ive encountered in life, cut them some slack.
No, I will not cut the christians some slack. Or any other theist.
I'm an avowed anti-theist. They've all have entirely too much influence on
public policy and people's lives. If they can keep their beliefs to themselves, fine. If they can't, that's a whole other deal.
Congratulations on having had good experiences with them.
Not everyone can say that.
