How many people have found themselves driving at night in the snow, and seen this annoying trend: people driving with their hazard lights on. I was caught driving late at night during our last big snow storm (back in November) and was behind 3 cars all in a row doing this. It was actually more dangerous than the snow, as far as I'm concerned. I had to back off to the point I could no longer see the blinding flash of lights in my face, or else risk running off the road!
Taillights are more than sufficient to see there's a car in front of you. Why are people blinding the drivers behind them? When it's a snowplow, with a flasher on top, that's one thing; those are 10 feet in the air and not at face level. This is something else altogether.
Is this a "thing" now? And if so, why?
We are very troubled in the UK by people who drive with fog lights on, they are very powerful and are only intended for heavy fog or mist. Yet the fools who have spent a lot of money on them as extras, want to show off of course, and in so doing nearly blind everyone else.
It's a law where I am that a car cannot be traveling with their flashers on.
"Hazards lights are for stopped vehicles only, officials say. ... The one situation where Florida drivers are allowed to use their hazards when in motion is when the vehicle is being used in a funeral procession . A Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson told NewsChannel 5 that flashers are for emergency situations."
Thank you!!!
@Paul4747 We don't have snow here but the rain storms are as blinding as snow.
@Bierbasstard @HomeAloneSunday So this is the first thing that came up when I googled, from the Miami Herald. "It's against the law to use your hazard lights while driving. Be safe, don't drive in the rain with hazard lights on. ... Flashing hazard lights actually reduce visibility, making it difficult for other drivers to see your turn signal or brake lights or causing them to think you are stopped or stalled in the roadway."
@HomeAloneSunday I just wanted to give some reasoning as to why they are illegal and can be dangerous. I just follow the law.
@HomeAloneSunday @Bierbasstard I just don't think this subject is worth getting all worked up and angry about. Let's get a hold of our sensibilities and agree to disagree. wow
I think its a law that if you are traveling significantly below the speed limit you have to have your flashers on.
How significantly? These characters were doing the same 45mph in a 55 that I was.
Flashers are for emergencies, not for visibility while driving.
