Paypal, you are world-class dicks. They wanted to "help" furloughed federal employees, so here's what they came up with (cut & paste directly from the email I received today):
"We understand that the current U.S. federal government shutdown may be impacting you and creating additional financial needs. During this time of uncertainty, we are offering a one-time 0% APR cash advance up to your available credit line for a maximum of $500 (with a minimum amount of $250) to PayPal Credit customers who are U.S. federal government employees."
In other words, out of sympathy for you, we're not going to let you skip any payments, but we will let you go $500 deeper into debt.
DICKS!!!
I mean, couldn't you apply the $500 to PayPal payments yourself? At 0% APR (and provided it stays at 0%), it'd be like borrowing $500 from a friend and paying them back $500 when able.
They (I say "they", I'm not a federal employee, this was a general spam email) theoretically could; but more likely they need cash in hand to meet needs like groceries, gas, and what all. And a lot of the paypal credit deals are interest free in the first place. So they might apply a little bit to make a payment, but the rest is going to be debt.
