I went to see the movie Green Book last night. One of the main characters had a cigarette in his hand or mouth 90% of the movie. He smoked while he was eating. He would take a bite chew it up and take a drag and then take another bite! I'm a former smoker and I smoked way more than most people but never that much. Of course since it was a 1962 story everyone smoked.
No such thing as "The Good Old Days."
Never have been, never will be.
So put another way, the world will never be a good place. I will stay optimistic about the future.
@RobertMartin To say, 'no such thing as 'The Good Old Days' could be an optimistic outlook meaning that the world is constantly improving and that there is no better time than now.
Different times...not sure how good getting lung diseases was...but, those indeed were different times...
Big business lied to us, told us cigarettes were safe. Now we know that isn't true. When I joined the Army in the late '70s you got extra breaks if you smoked, cigarettes were in C-ration packages. Then we learned how wrong we were. When I left the military you couldn't smoke inside the buildings nor near doorways. Now I'm not sure if you can even smoke on post.
But he can't be a man because he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me.
In the late 80's a friend made it to Europe to try out for soccer. He said almost everyone smoked. Damn. Think how f'ing good they could have been with working lungs.
Yep. Times were different.
thankfully so in some cases!
