Like all previous civilizations, we've peaked and now we're seeing how greed (for money, power, etc) is causing us to head downward. Not to say that trajectory can't be altered - but you first have to acknowledge some things that seem to be too painful for this country as a whole. It's much easier (apparently) to put on a MAGA hat ....... and some blinders to go along with it.

After WWII, we had the majority of the world's capital and the majority of the world's industrial infrastructure. Blue collar workers in the USA had a much higher standard of living than white collar workers in every other country of the world. Then we taxed American individuals and corporations at extremely high rates, took that money and gave it to other countries to build up their industrial infrastructure. There is no way to turn back the clock and put ourselves in the position we were in from 1945 to 1965.

I presume you are referring to the Marshall plan ?.I don't think we can ever accuse the USA of altruism. It was in the interests of the USA to regenerate the economies of Europe as a buffer against communism and to break down trade barriers. As The AstroChuck says , they had a plentiful supply of cheap natural resources ,a ready supply of immigrant labour and suffered no wartime damage as European countries had. The money paid to European countries would hardly have been missed

@Moravian You could expand that to the entire Cold War. We spent Trillions making sure other countries had economic systems that were roughly as efficient as ours was at the end of WWII. 35K or our boys died in Korea and ~60K of our boys died in Vietnam. It turned out those blue collar boys who were drafted were fighting on the wrong side. If 85% of Earth's population remained mired in Socialism and Communism, the demand for the labor of our blue collar boys would have been sky high, but once the Iron Curtain and the Bamboo Curtain fell, 5 times more labor was available for free market capitalists, and our blue collar workers haven't had a chance since then.
@BD66 . Along with the Iraq invasion two of the USA's more ill advised military adventures, which did nothing but kill millions of people and destroy several countries. Kept America's military industrial machine ticking over though." Fought on the wrong side" ?. not sure what you mean by that.In manufacturing blue collar workers are gradually being replaced with robots and this will continue. Birth rates in developed countries are falling and in decades to come immigrants will be welcomed instead of being turned away as at present. Even China is concerned at their their aging population. The one baby policy has long been discontinued and they are now trying to encourage people to have more babies. If you want to get a really good overview of how the future will pan out and the USA's place in that you should read George Friedmans book "The next 100 years" very enlightening.
We need a kick ass Democrat like this guy is portraying to speak these words out loud and proudly tell the truth about us.
