"Social Security Works members demanded the resignation of Donald Trump’s Acting Associate Commissioner of the Social Security Administration for his harmful misogynistic and homophobic claims. And this week, thanks to you, Trump appointee Robert W. Patterson is no longer employed at SSA!

Social Security was built around the promise of universal fairness. In order to administer this critical and beloved program, we need professionals who will uphold the values of honesty and equality, not appointees who seek to divide us and undermine the future of the program.

In the coming days, the U.S. Senate is expected to vote on a full 6-year appointment for the new Commissioner of the Social Security Administration – this will impact the future of Social Security for generations to come.

Trump’s nominee, Andrew Saul, has no background in Social Security. In fact, his only qualification to lead the Social Security Administration is his hostility toward Social Security. Saul previously served on the board of the right-wing Manhattan Institute which publishes articles advocating for drastic cuts to our earned benefits.

Like Trump, Saul also believes that his wealth and privilege should make him above the law: In 2007, Saul was forced to drop out of a New York Congressional race due to unethical campaign contributions. And in 2012, Saul tried to lie “his way out of a trespassing rap by falsely identifying himself as a police commissioner.” We cannot entrust our Social Security system to this man.

We must be with the fighting to protect and expand the earned benefits of millions of Americans."
