Sooo, I just found out my rear brakes are not under warranty. Only my front brakes! And the total cost will be over $1,497.47! F××k!

I would think the pads would be under no less a warrantee than the front brake pads. The bearings, calipers, etc... that I would not expect to be warranteed.

My car won't be out of the body shop until Monday!!! It's gonna take about 3 working days for the car dealership to get the needed parts and an additional day for repairs. Argh!

The nice service advisor gave me a ride home so I could grab my Jeep.

Drove to the bank to get a cashier's check for the full sum. I dreaded every second of withdrawing that much for car repairs.

Worse, I dread Monday, knowing I have to hand my money over to get my baby out of the body shop, but I love my car. She's been good to me.

I take it racing every weekend. Her name is Cayenne.

Does anybody else name their car?

Betty's been good to me. ? (2018 Jeep Renegade)

@Lillyfield41 2014 Jeep Rubicon... our jeeps are babies.

@Lillyfield41 My son named it Black Ops! After the Call of Duty PS4 game. Like WTF??

@SleeplessInTexas i thought you said it was Cayenne??

@Lillyfield41 My car's name is Cayenne. Not my jeep.

@SleeplessInTexas gotcha.

My first dog's name- Cayenne

Id get another estimate..

@Buddha I did. They're all about the same. I hired 2 independent techs to go to the body shop where my car is now to inspect the damage. They gave me a ballpark figure of about the same.

I went with the car dealership because I get a 2 year warranty. The other guys don't offer that. It's more money, but it gives me a peace of mind because my son sometimes dtives my car.

If I wasn't an overprotective parent, I wouldn't pay this much. I'm as frugal as they come, otherwise.

@SleeplessInTexas -the old fear trick- garages will get you everytime. Especially if they know you're a mother, or just a person that knows nothing.
I'm sure they're diagnosis are true enough but they gouge everyone by marking up parts at least 100% off the top, then the shop hour of what-- 125.00 hr? or more- plus this and that and the other thing that makes your car unsafe and not guaranteed when you leave their lot-- blah blah blah.
I am a technician and I've seen owners/managers do it for sales/profit. Admittedly, they have a lot of overhead for technical equiptment and manuals and software and tools and chemical and the cost of disposing of waste and such but, you're getting honed~

best,
Colette

That sounds very high, try another garage

@Dutchin308, I prefer OEM parts. I know that doesn't always mean better, but I want peace of mind. I requested that the mechanic return to me the old parts of my car and the boxes and part numbers to each of the parts they're installing.

Sounds like a failed wheel bearing was the cause. If you had a previous brake job on the rears it may have been due to over tightening the bearing on re-assembly.

If you had me it would be about $250.

That sucks... what caused the fire to begin with?

@Captain_Feelgood brake caliper. Brakes got stuck. Too much money! I hate unnecessary bills like this, but I love my car.

Yeet that car into the sun!
