Progressives do you want to be in power? We must start now building a core . This means the elections in 2019 are important and we must elect every mayor, councilman, treasurer, dog catcher and any other office we can to become the core of our movement. No position is not important! Rally be heard!
Until the "progressives" reject regressive leftist policies, and instead embrace egalitarian classical liberalism, the liberals will continue to reject the Democrats and embrace the "lesser evil" of the GOP; plutocracy will continue to thrive.
????????????????
@Marine It's a a fancy way of saying conservative.
@Bignate901 Only if you believe that anyone who rejects collectivism and regressive leftist group identity politics is conservative.
@PBuck0145 Conservatives are very collectivist. People in any complex society are collectivist. That's literally how this shit works.
@Bignate901 Only for those incapable of independent thought.
@Bignate901 Classical republicans did care about people---just look at Abe.
@Marine That was before the "Southern Strategy".
@PBuck0145 I get it people suck. People that are upset by our shortcomings shouldn't checkout. Run for office, vote, protest and convince citizens.
I'm pretty far left and constantly disappointed by War mongering Neoconservatives trading places with Center Right Democrats trying vainly to appeal to conservative voters on Pennsylvania Ave.
@Bignate901 Now I understand. I wish they would stop coming up with labels for opinions within the parties and just be dems or reps or what ever
@Marine Though not currently evident, the U.S. is already somewhat closer than Britain or Canada. Members of the U.S. Congress can theoretically vote according to their constituents' wishes and in defiance of their party leaders, though that is extremely rare in today's political environment.
IMHO the most effective way to make congress more impartial would be a strong third independent party which is centrist and egalitarian. If no party in the House or the Senate had a clear majority, the parties would be forced to cooperate and collaborate, producing more universally acceptable and stable legislation.
With a three-party legislative branch, there could be a real opportunity to change the system to one wherein political power is divorced from wealth and plutocracy.
@PBuck0145 I totally agree with you however, the third party can never muster enough voters to make things happen. The CEO of Starbucks wants to run but if he is elected and has no support from those already elected by the two parties he will fail. The only way a 3rd party system would work is if they could elect a base in the Senate and House then your idea would fly! Nice talking with you. Have a nice day
I feel like dog catcher and mortician are important but not for political reasons. I look for Leftist or Progressive candidates in local elections. The problem is a lot of them are no-names and they run like 6 at a time.
Pick a winner and support them
Ky primaries start in May and there's not been a whisper about them. Off year elections are easy to overlook and that's the way repugs like it.
That is why we miust get off our duffs and make noise.
I consider myself a progressive. However, I often find myself at odds with hard core liberals. Maybe the core should be: Anything but conservative.
I consider myself a progressive liberal but I am also an independent thinker and there are aspects of the Democratic party that I am at odds with but today's conservative, evangelical controlled GOP has absolutely nothing that I agree with or offers me and a LOT that will resist at all costs.
I am confused ,What issues do you find we need.
