Well last night's shift was horrible. Had a really hard work, hostile and aggressive patient. Demanding drugs (that I couldn't and wouldn't give). Tied a ligature with a skart cable...groan. Just medication seeking, already assessed as being mentally well. The police declined to attend so for an hour I was sat on my unit, with all my staff and other patients with this guy screaming and banging on the door. Just a catelogue of errors. Just needed to vent.
Holy cow. restraining someone with a cable? No end of awful there. I cannot compete on any level of stress with that.
He was stood there with a cable wrapped round his neck, holding on to it saying, "I'm not kidding don't come near me". It was all I could do not to roll my eyes (sorry for my cyncism). So I cut it off...as you do. People don't understand that they cannot die by holding a ligature as they will pass out before they do any real damage. There was nothing wrong with him, just medication seeking. It was actually a pain because he was prescribed cocodamol and amitriptyline.
Can’t tell you how I much I feel for you. Nights like that are exhausting. Sending hugs from your nursing sis.
That really blows, ED?
Its a crisis unit attached to ED
@Amisja Tough job in general, respect the nurses that can work down there.
