Well it looks like Trump is ready to shut down the governmet again on Feb. 15. Trump can't learn; he doesn't have the ability to learn.
I think Trump is posturing for his base. Talking tough. He's virtually assured he'll lose in 2020, if he runs, and he's cost even more Republicans their jobs in 2020. I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to shut down the government, again, but this time, I think McConnell steps in and they pass a bill over Trump's veto, if he tries.
I think you're overly generous with mitch but I hope you're right.
@kauva Yep . Mitch is just as big an A-hole as Trump.
@kauva I saw a video of Mitch from December, before the shutdown, saying that they had already had a shutdown and there was nothing to learn from the 2nd kick of a mule. Then Trump went ahead and did what he did. I'm speculating that Mitch wanted Trump to learn. Don't think that really happened. Trump was dug in and, I think, McConnell saw that. They had a lunch among several top Senate Republicans plus Pence. Supposedly McConnell got across how pissed he was. Wasn't long after that Trump caved. I think Trump is still posturing. McConnell is not a wall-guy from what I can tell. Believe McConnell views Trump as a useful idiot. Don't think he'll allow another shutdown. (3rd kick of the mule?, no). I believe Mitch will let Pelosi come up with something, that will have "border security", they'll sign off on it, Trump will declare victory and then move on to the next self-induced crisis.
@Remowill I think McConnell has his own Russian money connections. He's a savvy politician which makes him dangerous. It's got to be embarrassing dealing with Trump. McConnell has his own agenda. Trump is his signature for his bills. The shutdown was not a feather in McConnell's cap. Going to be really hard to get the Trump-stench off the Republican Party. Unfortunately, not enough of them (Republicans in general) know to be ashamed of what Trump is doing. There is an actual difference between rank-and-file Republicans and Trump-cult members. Don't believe voters will differentiate between the two in 2020.
