Hi. I'm new. Soon I'll be 59 hrs old and I really feel like connecting to others with the same "non-beliefs" as myself. My husband claims to be a Christian these days, but doesn't necessarily live that? Hard to explain. He doesn't approve of how I now feel. It's not a huge argument between us, but it leaves me with no one to discuss things with. I have up religion about 7 hrs ago after I was asked to be an elder in my church. Go figure!
I know for certain that we each must live our 'truth!' Otherwise, we will end up fragmented. It takes enormous energy to keep our real self 'under wraps!' It will come out, when we least expect it and may really cause us misery then! Everybody, is better off, when we are ourselves...even when others don't approve! At least it is not based on a lie of some kind! Some people want approve of us, no matter who/what we are.
Welcome to the site, there's a lot of good stuff here. I would encourage you to read some of the articles that are posted on the site as it may help you further clarify and crystallize your thoughts about being a non-believer. And many of the members' responses to certain posts may also be quite useful in that regard. Enjoy your stay.
I have never been real religious but I used to go to church with my wife just to keep peace. She often gripped because I would go to sleep during the sermon. About 10 years ago I told my wife I was an atheist and didn’t really want to go to church as I just didn’t believe in it. She still goes to church but we have agreed not to discuss religion and she no longer pressures me into going to church. We’ve been married for 42 years and that arrangement is still working.
Welcome! We are of the same vintage and certainly not alone. Critical thinking is so much more necessary in society now than I think it's ever been. Many people are waking up and pulling their heads out of the sand. The contradictions and hypocrisy among those practicing religion makes you really have to question things. I'm thinking we will continue to find much 'company' in the world.
It must have been easy to just go along with your religious involvement and think nothing of it, but when you were asked to be an elder, it caused you to at least think about what you were doing and you must have realized by self examination that this is NOT who you are. Congratulations.
I guess it brought all the questions to the surface, and no one around me had the answers. I'm an intelligent person and the bible, in any form, just didn't add up.
Hrs or yrs? Welcome! Careful, we're all heathens around here .
