Einstein, in his discussion of the Theory of Relativity, describes a person dropping a rock from a moving train, and seeing it fall in a straight line to the ground . . . . while the observer, stationary with respect to the earth, standing at a distance, observes the rock falling in a parabolic path.

The atheists are like those who insist that the rock is falling in a straight line . . . . .

The deists are like those who counter-claim that the rock falls in a parabolic curve . . .

Both are lot more alike than they would like to imagine.

The agnostic understands the the reason for the difference of opinion . . . .

That's not a good analogy.

An atheist is simply someone who realizes that it's impossible to form a belief one way or the other about a thing when you have no knowledge one way or the other about the existence of that thing.

So the two parties that are more alike than they sometimes want to admit, are not atheists and deists, but atheists and agnostics.

Although I will confess that atheists usually have much more in common with deists (and with many liberal Christians) than with fundamentalists.

So from what I gathered.. if you're an atheist on a train, you're supposed to throw a rock at a theist?

Einstein was really bad at metaphor, also if he was dropping rocks out of train windows he should have been arrested.
