I hate "Thoughts and Prayers" - to me it means "I do not care enough to actually do anything about it".
How do you react when someone says that?

It seems like a handy diversion from actually saying or doing something truly constructive. A cop out. And a greatly overused one at that !

Not me, but I won't say it to others.

My problem with the phrase is, what if this God of yours has the plan of killing, cancer, financial troubles, or whatever; not with intentions of making you better, but to ruin you instead? Despite all the good one can do. Conversely, doing good or "blessing" evil doers, con artists, and other deplorable behavior with fame, riches, or public office.

Which of course can directly move on to the subjects of heaven and hell or free will versus God's plan.

However people say it in good faith and that is better than go take a hike!

Sounds like Little Marco's response to the killings of innocents in Parkland FL.

It’s an empty statement that is said when a stupid person intends to do nothing.. because we’ve all heard it said a million times after the mass shootings and nothing has ever changed.
It’s been so overused that it’s now even made fun of on the news.

I simply take it to be virtue signaling [bostonglobe.com]

Thoughts and Prayers, means to me "You are on your own", "sorry I don't care", "You by yourself", and "Lick your own wounds"
How I react: Well,I ask if they can help me or if they know where I can ask for help.

Totally agree, that is how I feel
