Ellen Page leaves Colbert speechless with anti-tRump/Pence rant that's gone viral.
Oh boy...another actress who thinks she has a f-ing clue. Hey, actress - you have a job where you feign reality all day - STFU and go entertain us. If you want to tackle social problems, go to school and get your masters in sociology, or become a doctor in the mental health/medical field. I'm sorry, these SO unqualified people have no credentials to talk about the real world when all they do is play pretend. Uggg....
Also...is she even a f-ing American citizen, or just another Canadian who thinks she needs to input her foreign opinion into american government and politics? Why don't you go to Iraq, Saudi, Manamar, Pakistain, India...or maybe IDK - Canada and run you jib.
She clearly has more of a clue than you do.
@JosephHarrison Oh clearly...b/c she's a Canadian actress. Entertainers are the sages of our time. I don't know why we don't go to a magician when we're sick, or to an athlete when we need bridges and planes built. They are so qualified to speak on anything and everything obviously.
@jondspen Are you truly suggesting that because she's an actress, she's automatically ignorant of current events? I'm a modern languages student, does that mean I'm not allowed to talk about religion? Does someone have to be specifically qualified in a field to have knowledge about that field?
No offence, but that's quite an extraordinary opinion to have.
@JosephHarrison Nope - I just argue that entertainers are just that, entertainers. Everyone is free to have an opinion, I just don't give a shit to hear a foreign national sticking her nose into American politics and government, and being touted as a f-ing expert on social problems. Again, she can get a degree and work in a field that actually tries to address the problems. She could also go to a real shit country, where LGBT are beaten or murdered and protest (Mayanamar, Iraq, Pakistain, Saudi Arabia). She is a cowardly pretentious princess.
@jondspen Sure, many countries treat LGBT people far worse than in the western world. Does that mean Mike Pence's anti-gay opinions are irrelevant?
And I'm sorry, but no American can ever talk about keeping noses out of others' business. Like it or not, this a highly interconnected world. Which means that people are increasingly aware of events around the world and, by extension, the USA. To say that everyone else should turn a blind eye to the USA is both ignorant and astonishingly arrogant.
@JosephHarrison Does that mean a Canadian ACTRESS should stick here nose in American politics or government? But then again, you're from the UK and obviously think you have the right also. And yes, I can talk about keeping noses out of other's business, b/c I am a vet and have split blood in Somalia trying to protect the people from criminal warlords. I currently fight now to change domestic and foreign policy of the US government, b/c I don't think blood for oil is a good policy. And I sure as shit am not going to tell you how f-ed up Brexit is or isn't - none of my damn business how you govern yourself. Finally - sure, people can have an opinion about American foreign policy, but a CANADIAN ACTRESS is not a politician, economists, political scientists, sociologists, medical/mental health professional. SHE'S AN ACTRESS - SHE DRESSES UP AND PLAYS PRETEND FOR HER JOB! Do you listen to your car mechanic on how to solve global f-ing warming? Sorry, but credentials do matter.
@jondspen And there you and I differ. Far as I'm concerned, you can say what the fuck you like about Brexit. And Ellen isn't being placed on a pedestal, she's not speaking as some sort of authority. She was speaking as a guest on a talk show, who has an opinion and wishes to express it. So I simply don't see why you're objecting; frankly, it seems silly and petulant.
@JosephHarrison But she is speaking as some sort of authority. Have you seen her web page? Probably no. So why on a talk show, is she not talking about entertainment, and not SJW issues? I mean really, some person posts something on Facebook 15 years ago, and they lose their job. Yet here she is on national TV spouting policy and SJW agenda garbage. I hate Trump, but Hillary would have been a complete shit also. My point is entertainers need to stay in their lane and not use their popularity to spew off their disjointed Hollywood crap about how homosexual blood is running down Main Street USA; in 2019 it's not. Most people give as much credence to politicians as they do entertainers - b/c both are clueless idiots IMHO.
@JosephHarrison Yeah. It's not like we have ever elected actors to be leaders or anything.
@JosephHarrison yes I think personal experience and a reasoned point of view is good independent of profession.
@jondspen @JosephHarrison @btroje @BufftonBeotch She's a foreign national living in NY who is rightfully very concerned about the virulent homophobia of the current administration and it's effect on the society she's living in. An actress speaking about how her sexual/affectional identity is being threatened is not as bad as an incompetent business man and reality TV show star failing as a president. She also commented on the violent homophobia in other countries and just because things are worse somewhere else doesn't mean we should ignore the shit going on here.
