The writers of the bible had no understanding of ht importance of continuity for purposes of making it believable.
Today, most of the better films are good because they have somone whose job it is (almost) solely to make sure that things match from one shot to another and props and clothing match where they are ion the story line. In books, editors help catch any continuity problems that the author may have missed. A book with noticeable continuity problems will not likely ever get published.
In a world before typewriters, ink, and paper.....when gods hung out on mountaintops....or embodied golden statues.....
Lewis Black does a good routine on Moses, especially how the xtions misinterpret everything.
