"All I could do is pray." I was raised atheist, so that saying always meant "I couldn't do anything". Just now, I was thinking about how that saying means something very different to a religious person. Anyone notice that difference as they gave up their religion?

I see it as a graceful way to say there is nothing to do, but that you care and hope it turns out OK. I sometimes wish there was a thing to say without the religion.

How about, "I care and hope it turns out OK".
Or "my thoughts are with you."
