Name the first person you'd call if you won a lottery of over $30M.
My Attorney. He will have to collect my money and put it in a blind trust where I am the named grantor and beneficiary. I'd want to remain anonymous.
Would not call anybody as this would not apply. I never spend money on the lottery.
The preacher at the last church l went to.... nooo.. that would just be mean. ?
Unfortunately, if your state does not have an anonymous law your name will still be published.
That's what I've read. The article advised that if you have a normal life and are satisfied with it, you might be better off NOT winning the big bucks. It said you wind up moving into different social and financial circles, and you'll probably have to leave behind many or most of your old friends. There would also be all sorts of people and family you don't know coming out of the woodworks to ask you for money. And if your name is revealed, criminals and others will find out where you live.
A winner can sue the State to remain anonymous.
A woman in New Hampshire sued, and won, the right to keep her identity secret.
In March of last year, judge ruled in her favor.
She'd won $560 million and had her lawyers collect it for her.
@azzow2 Texas, I believe is one of the few states that does allow for anonymity.
My attorney weighs be the first person I would call... The winner of that $1.5 billion jackpot STILL hasn't come forward in SC (a state where the lottery allows you to stay anonymous).
Very wise.
I’d tell my cousin as we are like the closest sisters. Maybe my children but not positive on that if I’d tell them right away as I might get it sorted with an attorney first before telling my children.
Why would you wait to tell your children?
I would call AOC so she can make the world a wonderful and perfect place with my money, since it obviously takes a 29 year old to figure out the answers to our problems - like all the smart people for decades before her were just really dumb, or just to busy to solve them.
I don't play the lottery, but if I did, and I won the big jackpot, the first call I would make would probably be to my brother. The second would be to an attorney or financial adviser. Damn, if that ever happened to me, I doubt if I could sleep for days.
I would call my son first. Second, third and fourth would be my sisters and best friend.. and finally an attorney. None of my family would ask for a dime because they know I'd be quite generous. What I find interesting is that about 28% of people who play the lottery truly believe they are going to win "the big one" and be able to retire.
I'd call my best friend. We have plans to execute. We work together and both of us have jobs that take ages to train somebody for and we're both responsible and would give 6 months or so notice. Then her and I will pick an attorney. We know a few! Then we'll hit a luxury RV dealership and get 2. Then we're going to hit the NASCAR circut for a whole season. I'm pretty sure we'd have a damn fine time. Her and I are so opposite! We aren't attracted to the same guys at all, she listens to country, she's Republican, and conservative. She's usually the "voice of reason" too. We could not go in one RV.
Our state does not have an anonymity law which is all the more reason for me to call my attorney first to set up the trust.
RV dealer, get a home on wheels and never look back.
My dealer
@Rudy1962... which one?
@SleeplessInTexas I can't think of a witty response...
@Rudy1962 pablo
@LeighShelton -- Pablo is busy with other commitments at the moment.
I wouldn't tell my own children or family or friends.
I wouldn't tell my sons because I'm still going to make sure they earn their way in life and remain humble. I would make sure to help them along the way, but with enough room that they would credit themselves for their accomplishments and achievements.
I wouldn't tell family or friends because I want to make anonymous contributions to them. I have a list of people who have been influential in my life despite their struggles.
Even on my death bed, I still would not tell anyone.
They would all find out AFTER I'm gone.
You won, didn't you?
My daughter, my sister and then a lawyer.
My sister. Basically we'd share it 50/50 and we'd sort our kids out.
you'd lose a ton of money doing this.
Everyone is just going to say 'a lawyer' =)
I wouldn't dream of it
@JasonTomerlin2 It's the smartest idea!
I would want people to know. The people that didn’t bother with me when I was poor, my brother and sister that never contact me or my kids, the companies I don’t respect and politicians I would relish in telling them to go f themselves. Homeless, animals and veterans would be my priorities.
