Why are people so hostile towards President Donald Trump? This question was asked on Quora, and here is probably the best response so far (thank you to Chris O'Leary). Please take the time to read the whole thing (a little long I know, but worth it). This is recopied from a Facebook post I saw.

From Chris O'Leary, former 10 years of Active Duty at U.S. Marine Corps (1989-2000).
I’ll take a stab at this, but before you pass my answer off as “Another Liberal Snowflake” consider that 1) I’m a right-leaning centrist who has voted Republican way more often than Democrat, and 2) if you want to call someone who spent the entire decade of his 20’s serving in the Marine Corps a snowflake, you should be ready to answer the question “What did you do with your 20’s?”

Why Liberals (And not-so liberals) are against President Trump.

A) He lies. A LOT. Politifact rates 69% of the words he speaks as “Mostly False or worse” Only 17% of the things he says get a “Mostly True” or better rating. That is an absolutely unbelievable number. How he doesn’t speak more truth by mistake is beyond me. To put it in context, Obama’s rating was 26% mostly false or worse, and I had a problem with that. Many of Trump’s former business associates report that he has always been a compulsive liar, but now he’s the President of the United States, and that’s a problem. And this is a man who expects you to believe him when he points at other people and says “They’re lying”. (Check Politifact for detailed info).

B) He’s an authoritarian populist, not a conservative. He advances regressive social policy while proposing to expand federal spending and federalist authority over states, both of which conservatives are supposed to hate.

C) He pretends at Christianity to court the Religious Right but fails to live anything resembling a Christ-Like Life.

D) His nationalist “America First” message effectively alienates us and removes us from our place as leaders in the international community.

E) His ideas on “Keeping us safe” are all thinly veiled ideas to remove our freedoms, he is, after all, an authoritarian first. They also are simply bad ideas.

F) He couldn’t pass a 3rd-grade civics exam. He doesn't know what he’s doing. He doesn't understand how international relations work, he doesn’t understand how federal state or local governments work, and every time someone tries to “Run it like a business” it’s a spectacular failure. See Colorado Springs’ recent history as an example. And that was a businessman with a MUCH better business track record than Trump. We are talking about a man who lost money owning a freaking gambling casino.

G) He’s unethical and always has been. As a businessman, he constantly left in his wake unpaid contractors and invoices, litigation, broken promises, whatever he could get away with.

H) He is damaging our relationships with our best international friends while kissing up to nations that do not have our best interests in mind. To his question “Wouldn't’ it be great to have better relations with Russia?” The answer is Yes, but RUSSIA has to be the one who earns that, who must stop doing the things that are damaging to that relationship, or we are simply weaker for it.

I) He has never seen a shortcut he didn't like, and you can’t take shortcuts in government. “Nuclear Option, Remove the Filibuster, I’ll change the Constitution by Executive Order…Don…what happens when you remove the filibuster and the other side retakes the majority in the Senate? Suddenly want that filibuster back? What happens if you manage to change the Constitution by Executive Order and an Anti-2A President wins the next election?

J) He is and always has been an unabashed racist. Yes, I’ve seen your favorite meme that claims he was never accused of racism before the Democrats…Absolutely false. See the Central Park 5, the lawsuits and fines resulting from his refusal to lease to black tenants, the 1992 lost appeal trying to overturn penalties for removing black dealers from tables, his remarks to the house native American affairs subcommittee in 1993. The man sees and treats racial groups of people as monoliths.

K) He is systematically steamrolling regulations specifically designed to keep a disaster like the 2007 subprime mortgage crisis from happening again.

L) He speaks and acts like a demagogue. He sees the Legislative and Judicial branches of government as inconveniences, blows up at criticism no matter how deserved and actively tries to countermand constitutional processes, not to mention attempts to blackmail and coerce people who are saying negative things about him

M) His choices for top positions, with the exception of Gen. Mattis, who is a gem, have been horrendous. A Secretary of Education without a resume that would get her hired as a small town grammar school principal; a Secretary of Energy who didn't know the Department of Energy was responsible for nuclear reserves; an EPA head whose biggest accomplishments to date had been suing the EPA on multiple occasions; an FCC head who while working for Verizon actively lobbied to kill net neutrality; and an Attorney General who thinks pot is “nearly as bad as heroin” and asked Congress for permission to go after legal pot businesses in states where it is legal. (There goes that great Republican States rights rally cry again, right? Crickets). Also, an Interim AG after firing his first AG who’s appointment is probably unconstitutional.

N) He denies scientific fact. Ever notice that the only people you hear denying climate change are politicians and lobbyists? 99% of actual scientists studying the issue agree that it’s real, man-made and caused by greenhouse gasses. Ever notice that every big disaster movie starts with a bunch of politicians in a room ignoring a scientist's warning?

O) He does not have the temperament to lead this nation. He is Thin Skinned, childish, and a bully, never mind misogynistic, boorish, rude, and incapable of civil discourse.

P) He still does not understand that the words he speaks, or tweets, are the official position of 1/3 of the US government, and so does not govern his words. He still thinks when he speaks it’s good ol’ Donald Trump. It’s not. It’s the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. You have probably spread a meme or two around talking about how no president’s every word has ever been dissected before…YES, THEY ALWAYS HAVE. It’s just that every other president in our lifetime has understood the importance of his words and took great care to govern his speech. Trump blurts out whatever comes to his mind then complains when people talk about what a dumb thing that was to say.

Q) He’s unqualified. If you owned a business and were looking for someone to manage it, and an unnamed resume came across your desk and you saw 6 bankruptcies, showing a man who had failed to make money running CASINOS, would you hire him? He is a very poor businessman. This is a man it has been estimated would have been worth $10 BILLION more if he’d just taken what his father had given him, invested it in Index Funds and left it alone.

R) He is President, but he refuses to take a leadership position and understand that he is everyone’s President. Conservatives complain about liberals chanting “Not my President” while Trump himself behaves as if no one matters but his supporters.

S) He’s a blatant hypocrite. He spent 8 years bitching about Obama for his family trips, or golfing, or any time he took for himself, and what does he do? He was already on his 20th golf outing in APRIL of his 1st year in office. He constantly rants about respect for the military, yet can’t be bothered to attend the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day because of a little rain. (And that excuse about Marine One not being able to fly in the rain is HILARIOUS). I could go on, but I’m risking Carpal Tunnel, and I’m not sure how much longer I’ll have health insurance.

Edit:
OK, OK. Based on the most common feedback in the comments (Including the offer of a Marriage Proposal - - my wife was not amused), I’ll see what I can do about T-Z

T) He’s a misogynist. It's not really OK in this day and age to be a misogynist, but it’s not a huge deal if you’re a private citizen. It’s a pretty big deal if you hate half the people you’re elected to lead. The disdain for women seeps out of his …whatever…. and he just can’t hide it.

U) Face it. In any other election “Grab Em’ By the Pussy” would have been the end of that candidate’s chances. Back in the 90’s I used to marvel about how Teflon Bill Clinton was. I no longer do. The fact that Trump managed to slip by on that is as much a statement about how much people hate Hillary Clinton as it is about what is wrong with politics in this country right now.

V) He has one response to a differing opinion. Attack. A good leader listens to criticism, to different points of view, is capable of self-reflection, tries to guide people to his point of view, and when necessary stands his ground and defends his convictions. Any of that sound like Trump? His default is not to Lead, it is to attack. Scorched Earth. The Jim Acosta reaction is a good example. There was no defense of his convictions when Acosta was asking him repeated questions about his rhetoric on the caravan. His response was to attack Acosta.

W) He takes credit for everything positive while deflecting blame for everything negative. Look at him with the stock market. He’s been bragging about it since day one, and to give credit where credit is due, speculation on coming deregulation early in his presidency did fuel some rapid growth. But to pretend that it’s all him, that we’re not in the 9th year of the longest bull market in history and THEN, deflect credit when the standard market volatility that deregulation inevitably brings about starts to show up? Yeah. Look at yesterday. Hey! Stock Markets losing because the Democrats won! Do I need to bring out the Stock market chart for the last 10 Years again?

X) He emboldens the worst among us. Counter-protesters are slammed into by a car while countering an actual Nazi rally, and the response is there’s fault on “Both Sides” The media is at fault for a nut job sending them and Donald’s favorite targets pipe bombs. The truth is not all Republicans, not all Trump Supporters are racist, fascist lunatics. Many are just taken in by the bombastic personality and are living in an information bubble made worse by the fact that they unfollow anyone and ignore any source of information that makes them feel uncomfortable. People on the left do that too. The biggest problem the right has right now is that the worst of the Right is the loudest and the most in your face, and the actual right, especially the Freaking PRESIDENT needs to be standing up and saying No. Those are not our values.

Y) He seems to think the Constitution of The United States, the document that IS who we are, the document he took an oath to support and defend is some sort of inconvenience. He demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the Constitution, from believing he can alter the 14th amendment through executive order, to Thinking The practice clause in the first amendment somehow supersedes the establishment clause (not that he really understands either) or that the practice clause only applies to Christians. Or his attacks on freedom of expression and the press. He repeatedly makes it clear that if he’s read them, he does not understand Articles 1–3, and that’s something he really should have before he took the job, because they’re not going away.

Z) I’ll use Z for something I do blame him for, but the rest of us have to carry the blame too. Polarization. This country is more politically polarized than I can remember in my lifetime. Some of you who are a few years older than I may remember how it was in the late 60’s when construction workers in New York were being applauded for beating up hippies. I think it’s pretty close to that right now, but that was before my time. And Trump is the cause of much of the current level polarization, but also the result. It didn't’ start with Trump. We’ve been going down this road I think since the eruption of the Tea Party in the early years of the Obama Administration. I do hope the tide turns before it gets much worse because the thing that scares me more than anything is what if that keeps going the way it has been?

Trump is the worst beyond all questions.

I believe every word of it. Donald Trump is a liar and a conman. He is the real national emergency!

8

AA) Trump is a hopelessly illiterate, microbrained, Wingbat!

Here's where I actually started with the Excel Alphabet. [qr.ae]

8

Nice. Sadly, you could probably continue unabated for quite a while.

He used up the whole alphabet so he had to end it there. 🙂

Nope. I went All Excel on it a few months later. Enjoy

That's about as clear and concise, and accurate, as it gets. I wish I could just unfold this out of my wallet whenever I hear anyone try to defend The Idiot in any way.

6

I think I'll copy/paste this so I can carry it in my wallet.

6

Neatly packaged reasons...all of them align with mine and then some...

5

Wonderfully stated & accurate as hell. Thanks, Rick! Mr. O'Leary did an excellent job here.

4

Covers just about all of what is the problem with trump. Until the Mueller investigation is complete it is only speculation trump is being run by the Russian mob. It just that if it barks like a dog, wags it's tail like a dog and comes when you it's a dog.
trump seems like a compilation of movie characters - huckster Elmer Gantry, steel ball craziness and blame gamer Commander Queeg with the evil meanness of The Captain (Strother Martin "Cool Hand Luke" ).

4

"Why are people so hostile"....superior opinion post.

4

You are being too too kind to this Putin owned scripted reality tv show host failure who wins at nothing fails at every thing he touches!

My default position is to care as little as possible about the U.S. presidency. I've never felt much trust in any of the presidents making any real difference. As more of an observer of Trump's presidency than a participant, I've been struck by how strongly people feel about him. A handful of my religious friends actually believe he was put in by God to save the country. On reflection, I realized these friends are all white males who tend to be fairly dynamic within their groups. Then on the other side, I come here and see strong feelings the other direction.

While the degree of emotion has run high, I honestly don't see significant difference in anything that is going on. The underlying factors affecting this issue are the same. The arguments are the same. The assumptions are the same. They are amped up but they aren't fundamentally different than other presidencies.

Overall, the tone I'm picking up on is the desperate desire for change and that's coming from both sides. We elected Obama because we wanted change but when the changes he made weren't enough we went to the other extreme and elected Trump. We want change but don't know how to get it. We want change but we're using the same worn out channels to try and create change. I think if we keep trying to get real change, we'll get it, but the way we're going about it, it won't be the change we want.

2

I was reminded recently that the day he launched his campaign, he paid extras as supporters at Trump Tower. They were supposed to be paid $50 each, because he literally had no supporters. Apparently they weren't even paid for months.

[washingtonpost.com]

[hollywoodreporter.com]

Would the kind of person who would pay people to be background "supporters" at his campaign launch be above asking for campaign help from foreign governments?

2

A lot of people hated Obama as well. In my neck of the woods Obama was hated a lot more than Trump. Among cattleman’s groups the democrats have virtually zero support.

@Trajan61 You speak the truth .I am sick of these liberterds with their bullshit anti Trump posts .

@granny Yes I’m sick of them to. Not to many of those left wing libtards here in Oklahoma but there seem to be plenty of them in other places especially in the big cities like Dallas, Austin and Houston.

[thefederalist.com] - Using Politifact as your 'truth' reference is a bad idea.

As far as trampling the Constitution of The United States, state rights, individual rights, domestic and foreign policy, being a liar and a cheat - and really all the other rantings, uhhh, what's new there? He is a little more blatant about it that other Dem/Rep, but people in power want more power, that isn't a party ideology. He is just like every other politician except he doesn't put on the huckster persona.

"Now, there's one thing you might have noticed I don't complain about: politicians. Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders. Term limits ain't going to do any good; you're just going to end up with a brand new bunch of selfish, ignorant Americans. So, maybe, maybe, maybe, it's not the politicians who suck. Maybe something else sucks around here...like, the public. Yeah, the public sucks. There's a nice campaign slogan for somebody: 'The Public Sucks. F*ck Hope.'" - George Carlin (1937 - 2008)

"He is just like every other politician except he doesn't put on the huckster persona."
I couldn't disagree more - he is the most rebarbative individual in my lifetime to head a major democratic state. The bar for politicians is low, sure, but he falls way below it. He is nothing but hucksterism - a carnival barker for MAGA. Ford and Bush II were stupid, Nixon was vicious and venal, but Trump's combination of ignorance, dishonesty and malice is unprecedented in any president.

@Elganned Except he did pretend to be his friend. What he doesn't realize is that, besides the fact that Carlin was more narcissistic than intellectually honest (he was a comedianadter all), when Carlin says the public sucks, fuck hope, he is one of the "public."

"He is just like every other politician except he doesn't put on the huckster persona".
trump is somewhere between Elmer Gantry and Commander Queeg and those 2 fictional movie characters were not vicious or venal. Lying is second nature to trump and he has lied more than any past president.
trump lost the popular vote by over 3 million and NO evidence has been found there was voter fraud.
I do not think it is the voting public that is stupid it is the candidates we are given to choose from and some of those candidates suck big time.
trump is controlled by the Russian mob, he stinks of mob influence and that is fact.

@Elganned I could say the same thing. Really? Considering that is not at all what I said.

@Gareth "...dishonesty and malice is unprecedented in any president" - Hmmm, interesting. Do you remember a little thing called the Second Iraq War, where we invaded a country on the pretext of WMDs, killed thousands, and enriched corporate shareholders with the blood of innocents and our military?

@KenChang - Yea, so? People suck. I sometimes suck as a person. I'm sure you do too. No one is perfect, but as a country, we are the Trumps of the world IMO. Most foreigners think Americans are loud, crass, obnoxious, narcissistic, rude, and ignorant - and they are not that wrong about the majority.

@Bierbasstard - doesn't mean they are wrong, though, does it?

@silverotter11 You don't have to vote for Rep or Dem, nor do you have to vote for who is on the ballot; you know this, right?!?

@Bierbasstard Looked like reasonable analysis to me. Got any proof contrary, other than saying they are bias, so can't be right?

@jondspen Condesending gets no points please stop it. The rules of good conversation say always use I statements, as in, I don't always vote for rep or dem, sometimes I use the write in option and choose to write in horses' ass.

When both candidates are equally bad you can write in Mickey Mouse for all it matters but if you know one candidate is more bought by the Russian mob than the other what do you do? Try to get the lesser of two evils.

@jondspen Do you know why people suck? I am not talking about the normal level of suckiness. I am talking about the level of suckiness that rises to the hopelessness that Carlin talked about. Ignorance and cynicism. Cynicism is, however, another form of ignorance parading as intelligence. Not impressed by it.

@silverotter11 I would vote libertarian. I bet if all the people who hate the canditates that are offered but don't voting Green or Libertarian party b.c everyone keeps telling them it's a wasted vote actually voted Green or Liberatarian - it would be a land slide. Anecdotal, but every person I talk to in real life is sick of both sides, but most keep eating a shit sandwich b/c they don't think they can get better.

@KenChang Well, the problem is the normal level of suckiness is pretty much at that Carlin hopelessness level in the US today for far too many. And I don't think it's ignorance, I think it's frustration. People don't know how to get our politicians to work for them, they can't get a raise, they own more in taxes every year, the Fed pumps out money out of thin air which causes inflation and devalues their measly take home dollar. Then you have the judicial system which typically acts as a rubber stamp for the Exec/Legislative. The more I get involved with city, county, state politics, the more amazed at the unbelievable nepotism, cronyism, greed, theft, extortion, and lies abound. And to think that doesn't float to the top is ridiculous. You being a trial lawyer should know better than most how corrupt and crooked the system is OK - maybe there is ignorance on how to fix it, but it's not ignorance that it needs to be fixed. Cynicism isn't the problem though - it's the second step past frustration to people getting pissed off and saying enough is enough. BTW - I noticed you skipped the part about Americans being lazy, apathetic, selfish, boorish, cads and cretins though. Any person that has spent time in other countries can attest that the stereotypical American as viewed by most of the world isn't far off the mark.

@Bierbasstard Ahhh...so essentially NO - you have no proof the analysis is bias or incorrect. Thank you for playing "Hypocrites who think everyone/everything else is bias except their POV"

@Bierbasstard So which echo chamber do you see as unbiased?

@TimothyJ I believe everyone has an agenda, and will either twist the facts or out right lie to prove their point. This disbelief is kinda what a scientist does when approaching a problem, treat it with skepticism and l"let the chips fall where they may". I find it odd people here do that with religion, but not so much with just about everything else they believe. 😕 8)

@Bierbasstard Me either, but just b/c it may or may not be a bias site, doesn't mean what it's saying is wrong. You have yet to address that little fact, nor provide any counter evidence the analysis was wrong. But nice to see when unable to argue a point, you turn to censorship.

@Bierbasstard What, for you calling out one source as bias, so no one should believe it? Sorry, again everyone has bias - the key point is are they looking beyond their bias to try and see the truth. Stating don't believe them b/c they are bias, but my truth is pure, without even providing any evidence - that's being a liar and hypocrite. It's what religions do, and us as atheists/agnostics SHOULD be more logical and critical. Doesn't mean we're right, just means we're not as arrogant (or at least shouldn't be IMO). And no, you are trying to censor what I am saying, b/c I called you out on a hypocritical argument and position, where you offered NO counter argument, or proof the article was in error.

This is incredible, thank you for sharing!

America has lost her way..consumerism,Hollywood obsession,entertainment religions,me generation,hermetically sealed shopping centers.no civic classes,and American arrogance..we deserve him

We haven't lost our way...this is our way. The evolution of greed, racism, and misogyny, reinforced by the faltering short lived successes they brought in our history, albeit wrong, is what we are.

No one deserves him !

1

Would you have any objections if I shared this on Facebook?

No problem. I found this on Facebook myself.

I'd prefer you shared a link to the original post, if you dont' mind, it has links and graphics to support my points. [qr.ae]

@ChrisOLeary Of course! thank you for providing the link

1

someone said that the elelctorate get the politicians they deserve. and he's nothing but a 3rd rate politician.
could be kind of a karma thing.

His supporters are the same people who watch Honey BooBoo, Family Feud, and Duck Dynasty. Enough said.

@tinkercreek ,
yeah mostly them & some of the very wealthy.
too bad the only other choice is the limousine libs which in some ways are even worse, imo.
maybe it'll change; but unfortunately i think it'll take a crash & burn & then a great reset.

@tinkercreek out of curiosity, all the rest of game shows are okay? Jerry Springer isn't worse than Family Feud?

1

On a brighter note, with both sides toeing the party line and the loss of the ability to compromise led to the election of #45. Neither party seems to particularly like him or his policies except those who follow him as if he can do no wrong.
I hope both parties will wake up and see what the populace has done by making a statement by electing him (electoral college or otherwise, he still got voted into office). I think we are sick of the way things are/were going and tried something different, I hope he doesn't screw us so much we can't recover.

Someone I worked for years and respected told me he voted for Trump because he wanted change and to shake things up in Washington. He regrets his vote now, but I think his mindset is typical of many Americans who feel the politicians are putting party over people.

1

There are a lot of points there that can go for a lot of presidents on both sides of the aisle.

Really? Feel free to name names and points that apply.

@Rob1948

I didn't say Trump wasn't these things, but they didn't start with him, and pointing out other presidents doing these things doesn't justify Trump doing them either. Just to be clear.

A) All you have to do is check out Politifact and you will see MOST presidents lie A LOT, including politicians lower than president. Trump does lie more than the norm, but you're comfortable with a president outright lying 1/4 of the time just because Trump lies almost 3/4 of the time? Why isn't there the same criticism for them? It's ALMOST like saying the murderer that just shoots his victims is better than the one who carves them up and tortures them. It's murder and taking a life all the same.

B) Authoritarian populism can be, but isn't exclusive to, the times and political climate including resource limitations etc. What about GWB? Obama? They both were authoritarian and it's been getting worse ever since GWB it seems. You don't remember the Patriot Act by GWB and the continuation of it by Obama as well as his own NDAA that allows American citizens to be held against their will with no evidence of wrongdoing? You don't remember the part in the NDAA where the U.S. government is well within their right to assassinate American citizens? What about Clinton's Crime Bill that disproportionately targeted young black males? This is just a few examples.

C) You don't think there are more politicians who use religion to get votes? You don't remember GWB using God in all his speeches where he talks about bombing people in different countries trying to justify his crimes? Obama is a "religious" man and also employed the most use of the U.S. drone program killing innocent people all over the globe. These are just a couple examples again.

D) You don't think all presidents are "America First"? What's the sense of being the president of the U.S. if you're not "America First"? Just look at U.S. foreign policy over just the last modern 30 years. It's all been about what America can get in illegal resource and geopolitical wars of aggression. It didn't start with Trump. The most egregious president in modern times was GWB and his administration lying to the international community about Iraq and WMDs. Clinton and Obama weren't choir boys either. Trump just doesn't put on a good face while doing it. That's why the establishment doesn't like him. Not because they don't agree with him. He's too flamboyant about it. That's what they don't like.

E) Refer back to B.

G) Really? What president has been ethical? Was Truman ethical when he was dropping atomic bombs on the Japanese? Was Clinton ethical when he was cheating on his wife every waking minute of the day? Or his Crime Bill? Was GWB ethical by lying nations into war? Was Obama ethical with his drone program or when he was appointing Goldman Sachs executives to his administration? Was he ethical when giving hundreds of millions of dollars to a failing company that his friend owned? How about when the NSA was spying on Americans under his presidency? Obama got an ethics award for shit sake, and a Nobel Peace Prize! The irony! These are just a few examples of these slime balls!

H) Do you feel the same about our relations with Israel and Saudi Arabia just to name 2? They are two of the biggest civil rights abusers on the planet. What's wrong with trying to work with an adversary or an "enemy" if it means peace and working towards the same goals? Or would you rather go to war with another nuclear nation?

I) You don't think other presidents have used tons of Executive Orders? Just in modern times: Reagan - 381, GHWB - 166, Clinton - 364, GWB - 291, Obama - 276, Trump - 96. Roosevelt is the king at 3,728 [en.wikipedia.org]

K) You just have to look back as far as Bill Clinton who got rid of Glass-Steagall which led to the 2008 disaster because it made regulations weaker on banking.

M) Every president in modern history has made horrible choices for their administration with appointing bankers from Goldman Sachs etc. and also people into positions like the EPA, FDA etc, who were corrupt. Research it. You might be shocked.

R) When does any politician or president care about their non-supporters when it comes to getting re-elected? It's why they don't campaign to them. They campaign mostly to independents and people on the fence while still holding their supporters at bay.

T) ...and Bill Clinton is a womanizer and cheater, and GHWB is a molester.

V) ...and other presidents will just lie to your face and tell you what you want to hear.

Y) Refer back to B.

Z) The poster already admits there has been equally or worse polarization that has happened and talks himself out of the point he's trying to make except that Trump directly polarizes people with his rhetoric.

Listen, Trump isn't a good guy and like I said he seems to be all these things and has exacerbated some of these things more than other presidents, but I am aware enough to see that a lot of presidents have most of these "faults". They're not faults actually, but calculated actions, ideologies, and characteristics. Most of them are slime balls that work for corporations and the establishment.....not the people.

@Piece2YourPuzzle you have valid points but you also overstate some of your points. The bottom line is the Trump is far worse by almost any measure than any other president. The worst things he has done, not in any particular order are to attack and attempt to destroy journalism; to understaff government; destroy our relationships with our allies, treating them as enemies, while cozying up to Putin, and effectively doing wha Outin wants to destroy Western cohesion; break a number or trade and strategic treaties including withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accord; removing sensible environmental controls and regulations; with the help of McConnell and Ryan, passing the greatest tax scam in American history; appointing what could well be the most corrupt cabinet in American history; encouraging racism and bigotry; wasted enormous amounts of money traveling to play golf; and ignoring intelligence and scientific advice because he, himself, is more expert than anyone in the history of America and he will tell you that; and the list goes on.

Others may have lied, womanized or whatever, but never to the extent of Trump.

I think the image explains the differences pretty clearly, particularly given that Trump’s term and investigations are both continuing. And, for Clinton (both) and Obama, their low numbers are in spite of years of multiple attempts by Republicans to find dirt.

@Rob1948

Are you aware of the declassified documents about the CIA infiltrating the media in the 50s and continuing to do so today? Trump is worse than that? I would say that's pretty equal or worse than Trump telling Jim Acosta he won't talk to him anymore. Is understaffing government equal to or worse than appointing Wall Street executives to important positions? Destroy relationships with our allies? Would that be equal to having murderous civil rights abusing allies? How is he doing what Putin wants? We are still in Syria, still marching towards Central Asia, and trying to overthrow the elected government of Venezuela. These are things in the opposite interest of what Russia wants. Putin wants to remove sensible environmental controls and regulations? All corporate and seemingly all Republicans want to do this. Are they Putin agents? Yes, his tax breaks for the rich are bad policy, just like how GWB and his father did, and how Obama continued giving free money to corporations. You don't see what these presidents do as the same thing?

I think people blow things out of proportion when it's the other side doing it. Nobody is saying Trump isn't bad, but I think people are splitting hairs with a lot of these issues.

I truly believe that McCarthyism is alive and well and people are eating it whole just like they did in the 50s.

I think as economics get worse, there will be more war, and more rights taken away from citizens. It will be interesting to see what happens after Trump.

@Piece2YourPuzzle I don’t agree with much of what you said but you are entitled to your opinions and spinning of fact to suit your narrative. I’ll address a couple of points. While we may still be in Syria, we would not be if Trump had been able to pull us out. That is what Putin wants. He doesn’t give a dame about about our environmental actions and I never said he did. But you knew that, just like I bet you know he is glad to see us threaten NATO and treaties with our European allies. And, while you may not view as different, their is a huge difference between quietly putting the CIA in news media and deliberately trying to discredit news media every opportunity. The first is dangerous, but discrediting deliberately has long term repercussions of a different nature. Also, Trump is doing the same with the FBI, trying to discredit them every chance he gets. Finally, plenty of people are saying Trump is not bad.

McCarthyism here and now? Hardly.

@Rob1948

Oh ok so here come the insults when you really don't have an argument. You are devolving into nonsense. So first you said I make some valid points and then you say you don't agree with much of what I said and that I'm spinning fact to suit my narrative? That makes no sense at all. We ARE in Syria! Putin wants us out of Syria, but we aren't! Just like how Putin doesn't want us inching closer to Central Asia, but we ARE! Putin doesn't want us overthrowing Venezuela and installing a U.S. friendly regime, but we ARE at least trying to do it! These are things Trump is doing that are the exact OPPOSITE of what Putin wants! I never said Putin gives a damn about our environmental actions or regulations. I don't think Putin gives a shit about any of our well being. There IS a huge difference between the CIA trying to manipulate the news and insert propaganda and Trump trying to discredit news media. Our own government for decades trying to brainwash us into supporting false narratives that lead to war and corporate ass kissing while they manufacture consent and keep the American public stupid isn't as bad or worse as Trump throwing his temper tantrums calling networks fake news? They both have long term repercussions? Are you serious? Trump has 8 years AT MOST! The CIA has been doing that for DECADES! Who HERE in THIS discussion has said Trump is not bad? He's not as bad as some people think and he certainly is just as bad as past presidents. People put their faith in the same CIA and FBI who sold us a bill of lies about Iraq while the media parroted it all without questioning any of it.The same guy (Mueller) who is investigating Trump is one of the voices that parroted those lies on Iraq and was hated by the Democrats yesterday because he's a Republican and they thought he was biased. There certainly is McCarthyism here and now just like in the 50s. I would put together the case for you, but I doubt you would understand it or actually care to go through the points. When Mueller doesn't find any conspiracy that Trump was in league with the Russians to sway the 2016 election towards him then will you admit it? Probably not. Tribalism is a SOB. Show me what I overstated or what I got so wrong.....of my otherwise valid points lol

@Piece2YourPuzzle if it were up to Trump alone, we would be out of Syria. Congress stopped that. So did DOD. Lindsey Graham also worked on Trump. You keep saying we are still there as if Trump changed his mind. He didn’t. It was changed for him. The FBI said nothing about Iraq except to repeat what George Tennant and Colin Powell said. Did you expect him to call them liars?

And no way in hell Trump knows more about what either agency does yet he claims to, repeatedly. But, you just want to talk about history as if to say Trump ain’t so bad. This is not about 50 or even 10 years ago. It is about now.

It’s your opinion about McCarthyism. Not anyone’s that I know about.

Based on what has been shown about Manafort’s actions, it certainly looks like he colluded. And, he was the campaign manager. As for Trump, I would be surprised if that could be proved. Son and son-in-law are more likely given how much they have lied.

And, for the insults... that ends this conversation. You reply, I block you. Insults are unnecessary and speak way more about the person throwing them around that the person being targeted.

@Piece2YourPuzzle I did not insult you. I don’t know where you get that idea. And, the reason I will block you for replying is because all you did was curse me and insult me. And, claimed I insulted you, which I did not. If you think I insulted you, report me.

Goodbye. Have a nice life.

He pretends to be a Christian, and even tried to quote scripture, and didn't know how to read the source correctly, stating "Two Corrinthians..." instead of Second Corrinthians", being a dead give away! LOL!! Nothing he has done, or said since he has been in office that I can remember, has reminded anyone that the man is Christian, or even a good American citizen.
