Small Faces - Itchycoo Park (1967) 0815007
Yeah. Steve Marriot was excellent. Sorry he died such a horrible death.
Hells to the yeah. Good old steve was putting on rock'n'roll stage presence and spunk before the world knew what was coming. Those old vids really show it. (Being 42 now, I wasn't around to experience the genius of everyone on that stage at the time).
You know, he could have been a Rolling Stone if Mick had not been so paranoid about Steve's stage personna and excellent voice?!
@Spinliesel Was he actually in consideration at some point? Maybe as a replacement brian jones? surely not an alternate mick taylor!? If he was in contention, I'm glad it worked out the way it did...so we got both the stones and the pie! Matter of fact...I've always felt that if you wanted to hear the stones with steve on vocals, just turn on the black crowes! ?
@APaleBlueDot I agree about the Black Crowes- big fan. But this episode with Steve happened after Brian left. Keith Richards was very nuch in favor and saw Steve as a great addition to the Stones. He talks about it in his memoirs, Life. Mick Jagger was opposed to the idea . My opinion is that Mick did not want competion on stage, and considering the nature of Steve Marriot, he was an irrepressible presence on stage.
