Mindful living.
An interesting article about health discussed several areas about with we should all be concerned. Marion Nestle, a famous nutritionist/author, “Food Politics” stated: ”…most people believe other people are influenced by food advertising messages, but they are not. The fact is no one is immune to these powerful messages – if we were companies wouldn’t be spending so much money on advertising.” Also quoted was Elisa Goldstein [elishagoldstein.com] He said our social and physical environments play a big role in successful habit change. ”Create the pool you want to be swimming in.”
The article went on to suggest”Spend time with people who are doing what you want to do. Enrich your physical environment. When you look around, does what you see inspire you to take actions that support health?”
I see a juxtaposition between food, mindful living and mental health. For me personally, that is a resounding yes. Interacting with this site is only one of a number of things I do to express and foster my values. Luck of place and many and varied passions enable me to take action. How about you?
Food habits certainly fall into conformity. I do not conform and therefore, have a challenge. It's not easy. I only eat organic. I juice. I take supplements instead of meds. I don't drink nor smoke. I count my calories and my protein; I don't eat junk or fast food or sweets, or flesh food (vegetarian), etc.... I feel good. At my age I live as a young person and bewilder a lot of people. My mind is creative and my students benefit from that. So the values of going against the norm are worth the price.
And so did I. Little did I know there were hidden issues. A blood antigen test showed foods like dairy (which I already knew), eggs, soy, sunflower and sesame seeds were creating problems. Also, timing is important and lowering one's stress level (which is sometimes difficult after being on this site).
