How about instead of spending money on an abortion pill (or the like), we spend that money on developing safe, inexpensive and 100% effective contraception measures which render the whole abortion issue moot.

Abortion, whether via tradional medical procedure or medication (beyond the time frame proscribed for the morning after pill) has risks. Enabling women to seek out such methods brings with it inherent risks. Allowing women to chemically abort her pregnancy while not under a doctor’s care will almost guarantee problems for some.

It is far better to continue to fight for legal abortions than to just allow women to “treat” themselves with abortificants without medical guidance. The risks include premature births for women who try to abort at too late a stage in the pregnancy, medical mishaps associated with complications (again because of timing, etc), and unforeseen side effects and adverse reactions.

Women should have safe abortion alternatives available to them. Self-treatment beyond the morning after pill is not one of those options. Besides issues above, some women, particularly younger women, desperate to end a pregnancy, will take risks they should not take.

As states continue to make less and less clinics available the proven self medication abortion method needs to be advanced, These states that refuse clinics to be made available must allow these women to choose alternative means to control their wishes. For to long men have made these decisions without regard to the position they place women in by preventing abortion. With population growth soon if not alreasdy a problem it is time to get rid of the restrictions against abortion.
