In praise of libraries and librarians. Libraries, as smarter folks than I have pointed out, are one of the last bastions of public spaces where one needn't pay to occupy. They are also warehouses of knowledge. Millions of books and millions of bright, well read librarians who kick ass at finding answers to any questions you may have. Many libraries offer wonderful activities, classes and public art venues. So here's a little love letter to an institution that truly enriches public life. ?

@OpposingOpposum Another way to agree.
Coming oxymoron: The Donald J Trump Presidential Library!

Libraries are places of acceptance and learning as well as exploration of previously unknown worlds! People who can't afford home technology can apply for jobs or help from agencies. I like to sit and read a newspaper now and then. I used to take my grandkids to story time and many other activities. We NEED libraries more than we know!
Unfortunately, librarians are one of the lowest paid professionals around. In my graduate Records Management program there were many librarians with masters degree who were trying to get into a similar career but with better pay.
Here on Lopez we have the only 5 star single library (for it's size - 9th year) in the state. It is mostly run by volunteers and has such programs as music instrument lending. It is the most popular place on the island. Tonight is Literary Salon where a bunch of us get together to discuss books we have read. Perhaps your local library can use some volunteer help.

My grandmother was the town librarian when I was growing up. I loved being there.
