I have a pair of Pheasants; Chinese Golden Red to be factual, anyway the crux of my post is: at night I have a bunch of rats coming in and eating the feed. Any suggestions on how to stop them coming in their aviary and chowing down?

For my chickens I finally realized that my only choice was between having to pay for cat kibbles or rat kibbles (poison) so I adopted 5 outdoor cats, and haven't seen a rat since. (or lizard, or squirrel, or bunny, or snake, or... )

Gorgeous birds. Don't know what to tell you about the rats.

I have used electronic devices to repel rats, moth balls, carpet fresh, chili pepper. These items around the perimeter may help. Also rats can't stand the smell of lavender or mint. If you remove the food at night it will eliminate the problem.

Your birds are gorgeous.

Also, Rat Terries are trained to kill Rats instantly, I had four at one time, I can verify this, better than cats. Good luck.

Mix chilies into the feed, the pheasants won't mind it, but the rats won't be happy about it.

@Millwright There are bird seed mixes that do this to keep out squirrels.
