Surely we can't be alone in this universe...right? All the stars in our galaxy (leave the universe) and we are supposedly the only intelligent life form?
I very highly doubt it. People say you can't know the odds because our sample size is 1. But it's not really. We can see how common our situation is.. distance our planet is the from it's star, stars components, etc. There's literally nothing special about our solar system at all. No reason to think there's anything special about life either... I think worst case you've probably got some form of life around every other star. Best case theres advanced civilizations around every other star.
I believe that we aren't the only ones..but distance...oh distance...curse you. heh heh
So true
I like to think that if alien life visits this earth it'll be along the lines of 'The Day The Earth Stood Still' and it's an ultimatum to sort our shit out.
Sadly I doubt we will even with impending doom on our species
Science has seen other far off galaxies similar to ours with a planet like our earth rotating a sun and believe it likely has the potential to support life I think it's possible. But as far as aliens visiting us no I don't think so. Just something to think about what if the Earth is a living thing and we are part of that living thing, what if the entire universe is a living thing and the Earth is just a part of that. There could be hundreds of worlds just like ours. The point I'm making is we only know less than one percent of what's out there nobody can intelligently answer that with more than a guess
IF (big if) one is willing to accept statistical inference, we are likely not alone. Proof on the other hand is just likely to never show up. Science fiction is great entertainment and great for spurring the imagination and inventions. As a kid, Dick Tracy was the only one with a wrist TV. However, if one really starts to study the nitty gritty of the distances involved in space exploration it becomes clear that in the absence of an Einstein's Einstein we will likely never know if we are alone. Something different will have to be discovered. There is no current way on anyone's drawing board to explore our own galaxy, much less leave it. The last show I watched estimated that to get to the closest "Goldie-lock" planet with the best ideas on the drawing board would take 78,000 years. I doubt anyone would be waiting for the answer of whether the trip was successful.
