I deeply love my family. However, one of my brothers and a female cousin, both whom I love dearly are born-again Christians and every once in a while I get their religious speeches. I do not want to convince anyone that they should not have any religious beliefs like me, so why do they keep on trying to convince me to be a God fearing Christian.
I stay in touch with them because my brothers and cousins of mine have always been close. Do not know what to tell them to leave me and my beliefs or lack thereof alone.
What little family I have left - my Sister and her family - are all super Christians too. I love my Sister, but after several attempts by her, over the years, to lure me in, I finally closed that book. I wrote her a couple long letters asking her to cease and desist all hints, cards, books, blessings - all that shit.
Writing helps me remember all the points I might forget on the phone, and gave my Sister time to digest the information.
I think she finally got the message this time. We get on fine otherwise - but this stuff was really getting old !
You're going to burn in Hell. Forever. And ever. And ever. At least that's what they believe. I know it's so annoying, so illogical. I'd try asking them how long forever is and challenging that belief. Or you can just draw a line with them.
"so why do they keep on trying to convince me to be a God fearing Christian."
Because if they don't, their god who loves you so much will burn and torture you for all eternity for using the free will he gave you and not accepting the salvation his own son, who is also him, was tortured to death to buy for you, because a long time ago a woman you are descended from listened to a talking snake and ate a magic apple.
All perfectly sensible and reasonable when you think about it.
