Why is there such antipathy to government dispensed health care? Is it due to lobbying by "big pharma" and health insurers, who see a threat to their profits?

Is there really any chance of changing this situation in America? I don't see how, but I hope I'm wrong.

Obama tried to start cracking the problem.

Very interesting. I wish that's all I had to pay each month for health care.

It's all about big health care and big pharma. They lose everything and its billions and billions a year. I don't know how we can ever win.

Support Obama care, the thin end of the wedge to hobble big pharma and medical insurers

This is a good point but to be honest, we should pay more. An extra £1 per month per adult would make an enormous difference.

Agreed.

Yes greed it is.

In Spain, around 15% of my income went towards "social security". This covered not only my health, but my pension. I am now retired, with national health care AND a reasonable pension.

We are gouged by providers and their insurance partners...they contribute enormous dollars to campaigns, etc...they own the system...they will NOT let go easily...

I shouldn't forget the enormous profits that providers and their insurance partners realize...this is the catalyst for their continuing control of the program....

Yes and Yes. I estimate 30% of my income goes to health care. I'm caught in that spot where I have to buy private insurance with a 3000 ded. And then twenty percent once the deductible is met. Insurance is breaking me.

Lobbyist and ads by big Pharma and doctors groups come out of the woodwork when it is suggested that we go to Universal Health Care. They make lots of money off of our for profit system and they're willing to spend it to keep it that way. Sadly some of the media help reinforce their point of view because of the add money they receive from them. Millennials aren't falling for it though. Too bad they don't vote in sufficient numbers.

It is called ignorance. America is a huge vessel for stupidity, and that vessel is overflowing. They really believe insurance companies care about their well being. What they care about is ever increasing profits. We have let health care get so ridiculously expensive, I am not sure they can get there from here. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Because Americans have been indoctrinated so much and for so long against "socialism" that they can't tolerate it, even though they don't know why.
