Wondering how many people, raised by godless parents, are resentful of their parents.....
I'd say that all people resent their parents over something.
Yeah...mine didn't like my ducks ass, rock 'n' roll, or Elvis....really pissed me....thanks for the reply
also, if you are resentful of being raised by "godless" parents, why would you be on this site? it's not like there isn't a church in every town you could check out
@coralis three: I just asked a question. Not well thought thru, I admit. ....I don't fit the catagory at all.....have read a few stories about the trials and troubles that kids have at school ect, and the question came to mind.. anyway thanks for your reply
i appreciate that i was raised atheist. my dad does believe in god, but not organized religion, and since i was raised mostly by my mom i wasn't really exposed to religion
@coralis three: thank you for your reply
Nah proud. Proud of my old Mum who told a presiding priest on her death bed to 'piss off'. (She never swore). Proud of my old Grandpa who said, ' I can't go in for all the gobbildy gook' and my Dad who has never had a religious thought in his life...unless he could sell it something
@Amisja: and I'm proud for you. Thank you for your reply
I think you could say this for any belief or lack of regarding religion. If they grow up to be religious, they'd not much like their atheist parents I imagine.
The key point in my mind is never to press. My children don't know the word atheist, they don't know what I believe. When they come home talking about "such and such said God this and that" or whatever, I ask them to think about it and remember that not everything you hear or read is the truth.
Ultimately, they have to decide for themselves, as we all do. I'm just the bow pointing the arrow in the right direction.
@Xuande: makes sense to me. Thank you for your reply
I would think it would be significantly fewer on a per capita basis.
I am still resentful of my parents religion (Mormon). I feel it really ruined my childhood and left me with a distorted view of ht world, which left me at a disadvantage (left me too naive) in my early adulthood.
@syntiger6: thank you for your reply
My daughter Claire, 28, appreciates being raised by two intelligent, funny and well-educated atheists. Claire is the same way.
Starting in elementary school, one of Claire's best friends was Mormon. Claire felt deeply hurt when this girl stopped being her friend at age 15 because of her religion. Although I warned her this would happen, Claire had to learn by herself.
At age 13, I became an atheist when I realized the Bible is just a book of stories written by men. My parents were great about it. They didn't care.
"I became an atheist in nursing school when I realized a woman cannot be turned into salt," my mother quipped. She was hilarious. Thanks, Mom!"
Even if a woman could be turned into salt she would be all used up by now. Salt lick for the animals if nothing else.
@ LiterateHiker:...Thank you for your reply.
