A dish best served cold? Yesterday a former friend of mine plead no contest to an assault charge. Now I won't know what his sentence will be until Apr 19. I have a broken, eye socket, 3 skull fractures, and knife wounds out of the deal. Believe it or not this is only a misdameanor. The country attourney offered him 18 mons probation with the posibility of jail. If he didn't take the offer yesterday, I'd have to testify tomorrow. I guess in a lot of ways there is a little piece of mind, but he got off/is getting off very light. The guy is a 4 time felon, and in the past 24 mons or so he has gotten off of several assault cases. One time he threw someone out of a moving vehicle. Just got a $100 fine for disturbing the peace. One time he just pushed another guy away after he swung a beer bottle at him. He got 30 days for that. He has also beat his girlfriend, and another gal. Nothing ever happened with any of that. Not ever reported.
I'm waiting for my lawyer to get back with me. I'm not paying for the over $5K in medical bills. I think that some laws only protect criminals.
The level of violence seems to be escalating. Seems he has 'connections', even small towns usually give jail time for some of his actions.
I'd be real careful in the future. Here's hoping you get the medical bills covered and he doesn't resent having to pay.
I think one of the big reasons why he is getting off so light is that him an I were the only two people around. If there was another witness it would be different. I live in a village of about 600 people. He live literally like a 30 second walk from my house. In the past 4 months I have only been to my house I think 2 times. I'm either at my moms or dad's. I don't think he will be dumb enough to try anything again. I am usually with military personnel. I also sleep with a loaded firearm. If he tries to break into anyplace I am... I think he himself won't do anything, his drug buddies are a different story.
@TheGreatShadow Life in a small village can be problematic. Take careful care.
@silverotter11 That's the thing with small villages. Even when you don't know what the hell you are doing, most people THINK they know. The rumor mills never stop around here. One time I had a warrant for my arrest because I forgot to pay a $10 parking ticket. Yes ten dollars. Officer came to my house early one morn and announced that he had a warrant. Then made me go to the court house and pay it. They would not let me give the officer the money, and I had to go. Next day the rumor was that I got busted for a meth lab, and a SWAT team broke into my house.
I live in Lincoln, Omaha, Phoenix, and LA. When you walk down the street in any of those cities, you are just another nobody, and they don't care. Privacy is rare around here.
@TheGreatShadow Human nature at it's worst. While Ellensburg is not small by any means, it is not Seattle. The complex I live in has 176 units and the same applies, even if you don't know what you're doing others do.
Is this a small county?
Sounds like he has family connections.
Oh yeah, this county is small. Doesn't help that his friend was the lead investigator for here (he just got kicked off the force). My friends wife worked for the state. I was thinking this, and others mentioned this before I told them what I thought. Most claim he has to be some sort of an informant to get way with this crap. Got off two DUI's too. I was with him both times. Once he blew a .133.
@TheGreatShadow That's terrible. The area where I grew up was very much like that. Corrupt to the filthy core. I got out as soon as I could.
@BufftonBeotch Good thing I bought my house here. I'd move in a heartbeat.
@TheGreatShadow ugh.
better be careful how you choose your friends.
He was very different when I first met him. He relapsed, and just went nuts.
