This has me confused. The US is talking sanctions against the Nord II pipeline. This is to punish Russia officially, I think. But realistically, it is so the US can offload its LPG on Europe. What confuses me is this;

Throughout the cold war, the former USSR never used energy supplies to Europe as a leverage tool. These sanctions will threaten that energy supply.
Are the American hierarchy so arrogant that they think Europe will be happy to pay more for their gas? The Russian nation, even under communism, have proven to be a reliable energy supplier to Europe. Can the US offer the same?
Environmentally, practically and economically Nord II makes sense.

Now Trump is accused of being a Russian puppet, and applying sanctions will support this because it will drive Europe closer to Russia. Because energy will be cheaper and more reliable from Russia than the US and other "allies".
Yet the pushers for more severe sanctions against Russia are the Democrats??????
Sanctions against Nord II will play into Russia's advantage for sure, by bringing them closer to Europe.
So is it Trump doing Russia's bidding? Democrats doing Russia's bidding? Both doing Russia's bidding?
Or is it US arrogance? US ignorance? A combination of both?

Can you see how I'm confused? Wtf is going on here?

I don't see it. Bob Menendez bipartisan bill that would impose drastic new sanctions on Russia is based on its meddling in U.S. elections and aggression against Ukraine is the latest congressional effort to push U.S. President Donald Trump to ratchet up Washington's response to Moscow.

A few items. Menendez said:

“there's no specific provision here on Nord Stream 2, let me start off with that, in terms of the sanctions that we have envisioned, and we seek to have a close collaboration with Europe on perfecting sanctions that can hit our ultimate target which is Russia for its violation of international law.”

Trump is probably not happy with this bill, he was reluctant with CAATSA, the 2017 sanctions against Russia. He has no choice, because both Dems & GOP are dead set against Russia.

The Trump administration favors sanctions as its form of diplomacy, 'extortion in lieu of statecraft'.
