For the people who have children, did you raise them not to believe? Are they now atheist?
For awhile as I was still trying to make sense of my own questions and beliefs I half heartedly tried to turn them onto the Christian Church. Thankfully it didn't last long and they both are now non believers.
I have raised 2 very happy, well balanced atheists. They have been exposed to a number of religions, just for theory. My own mother is very religious, my ex and in-laws also, My youngest brother and his wife are both Christian, but their 3 kids, all doctors of one sort or another are devout atheists.
Hello, In my walk trying to find a creator or god I guess I have been down many paths. In trying to enlighten my children I have always explained the best way to find god or a higher being or creator you first have to realize that human knowledge spans thousands of years and there are literally thousands of interpretations some interesting others ridiculous but deserving of research so you can determine which are useful and which are harmful but the more we research the clearer it becomes that they all have an origin in earlier ideology! its all been stacked on top of each other and turned into some fundamentalist bullshit to try to take your money and rally your vote my sons are agnostic they have their own belief and I couldn't support them any more than I do now have to educate yourself on its origins to get to the truth its a long road but definitely worth what you learn in the end!
My son knows I don't believe in a god and don't follow a religious doctrine, but he also knows that I will support him in figuring out what works best for him.
I told my kids (now 16 & 13) that I don't believe in organized religion. I was raised Catholic & was an atheist for a long time. I tend more toward agnostic now that I'm older but either way I don't believe in religion as a whole. With that being said I encouraged my kids to attend different services with friends & to conduct their own research so to speak. I won't shove religion down their throat like it was mine but it also isn't my place to forbid them to seek it out & make their own decisions.
I never learned how to make kids, but if I had, I would most assuredly teach them to read, think and question everything that they read or hear or see. Then they could make up their own minds and not be "sheeple"
I would take my son to church to see his grandpa on sundays and holidays. when he would ask me questions i would couch them 'well this is what they believe... but this is what i believe..." I would try to be even handed so he decides for himself. he's 16 now and flip flops so i don't know what he thinks or if he even knows yet. It's a big question to come to terms with.
they both hold my views in high regard but still are curious about religion. My oldest baptized his kids and i refused to go to the ceremony. Boy did i get in some shit for that !
I'm glad I became agnostic before I have children. I'll probably teach them that there are many religions and about them, but let them choose if they want to explore further or not. I'm hoping they don't choose one, but will support them if they do.
My 6 year old son says he is a non believer just because I am. I don't force anything on him though. I just tell him the truth, the facts about our world, and he also is exposed to scripture and religious discussion at his daycare. So he sees both sides. Since me and his father are both atheist, and his step dad is agnostic, I feel like he will end up being a non believer just because I would have been at a much younger age if my mom hadn't forced Christianity on me. There won't be any pressure on him to accept far-fetched religious doctrine.
You are doing a good job by him.
My son is an atheist and one of the kindest people I’ve ever met.
I raise them the way I was raised. I tell them what I believe, I educate them the best I can on what others believe, I try to help them educate themselves on what others believe and I encourage them to decide for them selves what it is that they believe. Also to question everything.
I raised my daughters to make their own decisions about religion. They knew that I did not believe in any religion;, but they always had the freedom to attend a church if they wanted.
Both considered it, but are not atheists.
<u error. Both Are ATHEISTS.
