I don't know about you but when I was quite young, I thought I had failed if I were to change an idea, plan or decision I made. I must have chosen wrong to begin with, right? I'd fight changing my mind, I didn't want to be wrong.
But this is how it was put to me. I was asked, if you are driving from point A to point B, for an appointment but along the way you discover there is a significant traffic delay that will cause you to be late. What do you do? Easy right? Take a different route!
Applying that same logic to my life, helped me see that change can be and in many cases is a good thing.
How many psychiatrists does it take to change a lightbulb?
None: it can only change itself.
Especially if it has that "lightbulb" moment.
Extinction usually occurs through failure to change.
Today change is rarely for the benefit of improving everyone's situation...it seems merely to drag all down to a common level of ignorance, dependency and ineptitude.
There is a difference between being wrong and not being fully informed. New information requires new conclusions. I once dated a brilliant woman who said "I am never wrong. But when I get new information, or someone provides a better POV based on something I had not thought of, I change."
Think about it.
At work so many people are even afraid to make a decision. If I make a wrong decision I correct it and learned something in the process. Change is inevitable.
I agree.
