"This could be linked to the fact that 45% said they only believe in science that aligns with their personal beliefs, likely causing unconscious skepticism, says the report."
How does this square? If you only believe "in" science that aligns with your beliefs, you are saying you fault science because of your belief, are you not? You are saying you believe what you believe in spite of science.
Weird. Do we believe "in" science? Or accept scientific facts and findings?
There’s science, which is mankind’s way of learning about nature, and it is based on deep awareness, curiosity and awe. A scientist imbued with the spirit of science pounces on new evidence with greed, and leaves no stone unturned in his never-ceasing quest for knowledge and understanding.
Then there’s the scientific establishment where people are motivated to establish their tenure or win grant money. Their reputation might depend on a religious-like support for current scientific paradigms. They engage in studies to fulfill their university obligations. It’s “publish or perish” or something like that.
It’s no surprise that large numbers of scientific reports are flawed, and it’s no surprise that the public has grown wary.
