An average salary for a US military chaplain is $85,000, according to goarmy.com. Not too sure how I feel about that ?

That's half as much as a Congressman's salary, and both chaplains and Congressmen spout nonsense as a vocation.

Dispensing bull shit to the troops pays well . . . . they need bull shit because they have to be able to convince someone to be their cannon fodder.

Many people are uncomfortable contacting professional secular therapists for various reasons. A good prayer chaplain or non-denominational minister will handle acute emotional and mental health issues themselves and are trained to refer out those people who are suffering from mental issues that require long term therapy to mental health professionals. Traditional Denominational Ministers may not do this and this can sometimes cause more harm than good (In my opinion) but, from what I understand, Military Chaplains are non-denominational. I'm currently being trained on how and when to make these referrals and I plan on helping people through non-judgmental active listening (which I am also being trained to do). I'll never make 85k though.
