I think this is what will destroy the world and the only real hope is if we survive long enough to create a new generation of colonists and see them off into space. Too little space and too many idiots who care only for themselves and their own little patch of earth. The nest war of any size likely involving India/Pakistan will involve nuclear weapons and then it is "Game over, man!".

But that is evolution. Following the logic that we need to have the ‘old ways’ how far back do we go to find Utopia. Presumably not before production of electricity or the flushing toilet!

This post is very Western and probably middle-class centric. For a start I take issue with the whole choosing to be trans thing. Being trans is rarely (if ever) a matter of choice. Lifestyles in general are far far less about choice and far more about your situation. For millions and millions of people the choice is about doing what they need to do to survive. Theres a three near me, brother, sister and her fella. Not a tooth between em, they are up at the crack of dawn trying to score. She is invariably pregnant but never gets to keep the babies. They live in a modern post industrial social democracy but their lives are extremely basic. I know their story is replicated across USA. They cannot be citizens because they are disenfranchised from involvement. The same goes for many in the BME communities. I do not see a disconnect for people who identify in any particular way and their commitment to their communities. One can be gay and British. We have several openly gay MPs. The important thing is that we encourage our citizens to be part of the solution whilst retaining their individuality.

I feel left out. I can’t think of an identity for myself. Well, I’m sort of an ethnic Cracker but not a very good one.

I know! I’ll be a member of the class of confused, bewildered people who have no identity other than as conscious beings! I’ve already been trying hard to promote myself in that way on this forum.

Very true and unfortunately modern social media does not help. Because it works hard to split people in groups, for no other reason that there is more information value in that, and information is marketable.

The thing is that actively seeking one's identity makes it more worthwhile + you don't have to put up with some things you don't like (like undesirable family members or having to learn about the evils of religion - pedophilia for one). This new freedom, as you said,is one, one has to work on getting and maintaining. Some of us, non-conformist have to work on this everyday even on this site.

I don't know about the proving we are the good ones. To me it's not about feeling good but doing things that benefit the life sustaining system on this planet. I believe in altruism and am not so much concerned if something directly benefits me personally.
