Well this is good.... My boss boss came over to present me an award for doing what I do (Details don't matter). Suffice to say, last few weeks have been very demanding and it's nice to be appreciated

I tend to decline the offering of chocolate and wine (which, believe me, is very much against my nature - I love chocolate and wine) and ask if I can have a pay rise instead.

Congratulations, mostly for doing a great job! 
Nice that it was recognized though. Still, the job was great regardless, and we should all feel good about ourselves regardless of external validation. Easy to say, though. Have a fantastic weekend!

Good boss. I used to be the boss and always complimented and treated the employees to what I could. Upper management on the other hand was unhappy with my approach and wanted to consider the employees a cost to do business and nothing more.
