Here is a reply that I made to a college friend, a minister actually, when he complained that science was too difficult for him to understand....."You do not need to be smart to understand science (actually you are not understanding science, you are seeing the physical world through the lense of science), all that you need to do is start with the basics (high school algebra, geometry, chemistry and physics) because these classes explain the language that science uses.......I failed chemistry and physics, but I still understood enough to be able to read science.....Now there are good online resources where one can read technical stuff at the level of their understanding. If you did not get the basics in high school and college, you can still find descriptions of the physical world that you would understand."
