In the second creation myth in Genesis, god created Adam and Eve and put them in a garden that had two special trees. The first was the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and the second was the tree of eternal life. Adam and eve were instructed not to eat of these trees, but they would not have the capacity to understand this idea until after they had eaten the fruit of the first tree......After they became conscious and had knowledge, god drove them from the garden lest they eat of the tree of eternal life and be like him.......The contradiction here is that this myth clearly explains that god does not want us to be like him (having both knowledge and eternal life), and yet every Sunday from every pulpit, Christian 'pastors' will be selling eternal life and all you need to do is give them control of your life and your money.

But satanists will reflect the same story as finding freedom of choice

This myth to me has always been an allegory for human’s ascension from the type of consciousness of animals. The eating of the fruit of knowledge is analogous to our realization that death is enevitable, thus becoming mortal in a way unknown to animals.

Yeah and it bears a lot of similarities to the Neolithic revolution, when we stopped being hunter gatherers and began things like written language, agriculture, land ownership. This would have been when tribalistic land defense started and we began living by the sweat of our brow. Living in the zero sum game of “civilized society” is it’s own punishment.

Don't use logic...it makes their faith explode (no brain).

We need to bear in mind that this is a myth and so should be considered allegorically. It is most likely to have arisen during the Babylonian exile when much of the Hebraic literature was written. The writings which compose the Torah are informed greatly by Babylonian and pre-Babylonian religious ideas and texts.

It could relate to the enforced change from a hunter gatherer lifestyle to an agrarian one although American author Daniel Quin thinks the story of Cain and Abel relates to this. Cain is the agriculturalist and Abel is the hunter gatherer.

@Antifred Yes but the allegory is that the agrarian killed the hunter gatherer

The Bible says the tree of the knowledge of good and evil made Adam and Eve like God in knowing good and bad. They were denied continued access to the tree of life because it would allow them to live forever. What would have been so bad about this? Maybe you couldn't really know about good and bad without experience and a human lifetime of experience is enough for anyone to endure. It amazes me that these essential questions were never answered.

It's like "You want to know about bad? I'll show you bad!"

They just want your money!

No they want control as well, Power is worth more than money. You can't always get power from having money, but you can always make money by being in power.

@4String IMHO power and money are analogous to energy and matter. They are essentially the same thing in different forms and can be converted from one form to another. Perhaps not quite as straightforward as in physics but close enough to be informative.
