Not really news for most folks but in the great town of Wilkesboro NC this is the eyesore you get to see. We call this the Taco Bell waterfall. When the original planners designed 421 and adjacent strip mall areas they covered a small creek. Supposedly they put a culvert for the creek to run through. At first there was a 'sink hole' right in front of taco bell - they fixed that... the fix did not work and 2 more sink holes formed. Then another further up the parking lot. I did video it - maybe I will add it to YouTube later so I can post it here.

Hopefully this will come through
It looks like they could get a lot of boat business.
Definitely during storms
I'm used to sink holes just opening up and swallowing whatever they please.
I remember one guy was in his bed, sleeping, and one opened under his
house. They never recovered his body.
This is a little different because they know what is causing it vs the ground just opening up. Do you remember the sinkhole a few years ago that swallowed all those corvettes?
@Heidi68 Yep. Bowling Green, KY. Used to have friends who lived there.
Went to that museum once.
I lived in Florida for decades. Sinkholes were part of the landscape.
Sometimes, they'd open up in neighborhoods or business parks.
Mostly, they opened up in pasture land. It wasn't anything unusual to see huge live oaks with the bases of their trunks 12 feet or more below the rest of the ground around them.
Someone is in deep doo-doo
Actually no. The owner of the property, who is also the one who did the excavating, etc was fighting the town at every turn. Not to be mean, but old guy actually croaked several weeks ago now the estate is having to deal with it. From what I understand the town sued & now the estate is selling off quite a bit of land (including the parcels in the photos) to cover the cost of fixing it.
I added the video if you are interested
@Heidi68 impressive. thanks
