Wow! The deepest ever dive into the ocean - and they found new life forms as well as sweet wrappers and a plastic bag!

Even the deepest living critters are litterers! There is no hope now.

Cool. Shame plastic is so ubiquitous on the planet.

I'm just wondering what kind of wrapper from sweets made it to the bottom of the Marianas trench.

Probably a plasticised toffee wrapper from Mr Hershey.

@Petter I was thinking of cellophane wrapper I find that stuff all the time from years ago.

@oldFloyd I thought that cellophane, being wood based (cellulose), was biodegradable.

@Petter I'm not certain of its chemical composition especially between now (21st) and then (20th) but I try to stay away from plastic packaging as much as possible

@oldFloyd It depends on whether it is real cellophane, biodegrades, eco-friendly, etc. and what is now being called cellophane. The latter is a type of polypropylene plastic, for which the use of the word should be banned.

I wish I could mark two emojis on this post -- like & sad.

Agreed.

One day, a new species will emerge from the deep--a jellyfish-plastic bag hybrid, of gargantuan size!

Surprise, Surprise, surprise, not. I was once a member of a major Seattle kayaking club. We would get speakers at our monthly meetings and one pair rowed across the Bering sea to Russia. They got caught in a downpour and stopped on a small , unsettled island. They set up camp and built a fire to dry out their clothes but didn't know how to hang the wet clothes. One guy spotted something and sure enough someone had left some of those spring clips in the bushes. Problem solved but it just show how pervasive we and our trash has become. [facebook.com]

Mankind will eventually have to expand into space - to escape all his rubbish.

@Petter sounds like Wall-E

@Petter Do you know how much space junk there is? Maybe if we were told all our trash would get buried with us we might be a little more concerned about this issue.

@JackPedigo I do, but it's mainly in earth orbit, so it's merely stacked up a bit higher.
Burried or cremated woth us?

@Petter Actually, not a bad idea. More and more garbage us being used to create energy through burning.

@JackPedigo How many P.P.D. do we need to burn in order to save the planet? (Politicians Per Day)
