Here in the US almost all the national madness going on is rooted in religious ideation -- but in a particular kind (evangelical fundamentalism). So I definitely acknowledge there exist extreme detrimental effects of religion.

Of course I also acknowledge, despite lacking belief in any deities, that religion can and does at times have salubrious effects, too. And that the world is not ready to just walk away from religion without developing functional ways to get the same needs met in other ways.

Regarding the salubrious effects am I misunderstanding Sam Harris End of faith? Does he acknowledge salubrious effects? Have you read the book? Will you explicate ideation?

Hello seekingtruth I understand your need for a replacement, but what kind of replacement do you want? You will only replace one untruth with another if you choose the supernatural.. We are children of the universe and the energy that serves us is the same that serves the cosmos. Energy does not die, it only changes form and we are made of this energy. There is a poem that sums up how I feel. it goes like this;
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there. I do not sleep
I am a thousands winds that blow,
I am the diamond glint on snow.
Who knows what is going to be discovered in the future? For example; my wife and I together experienced 'Ghosts.' They were as real as real can be. I began to think of our subconscious that works 24/7 and did the event come from my wife or me. The source of the 'ghosts' could have also been my two sons aged 4 & 6 who were fast asleep at the time so this brought up another problem; did it come from one of my sons? The 'ghosts were my two sons I discovered.. Of course we will never know the source, but it did however prove that life is connected. This brings another falsification to light - ghosts don't come from the dead, they come from the living. Do you see why religion is so bad for us? There are things out there yet to be discovered that will make the mind boggle. I can't wait! Religion is taking us down the wrong path and the further we go down that path the harder it will be to come back. 140 years ago 60% of the population believed in fairies; imagine what would have happened if we had gone down that road? Accept what is and venture into a world you have never dreamed existed while you were tied to religion. You will find yourself, give it time.

Hello seekingtruth, I'll try to explain. Dr Donald Hoffman discovered that life cannot see accurately - this means all life, including us. The jewel beetle had been successfully breeding for over two million years and suddenly they started to decline. Only the male of the species can fly and he would fly around looking for the female who is brown, shiny and dimpled. What Hoffman discovered was; the jolly swagman threw is newly produced bottle of beer empties into the Outback; the bottles were brown, shiny and dimpled - the male beetle couldn't tell the difference between a bottle and a female. As we go up the evolutionary scale and come to the more intelligent species, 'us' - when we come across something we can't explain we reach for the supernatural in a desperate attempt at clarification and like the beetle we are doing the opposite of what nature is telling us. The reason there are so many religions is because that is the variants of intelligent levels needed by nature.' Evolution.' Eventually religion will have to give way to logic because you cannot go against nature forever. Example; if all the world was ruled by one religion with its opposed views of reality, then intelligent life would be on its way to extinction, because that would destroy purpose and purpose is the food intelligence feeds on. It's kind of paradoxical in its illusion of life, but like I say, eventually logic will win. It's got to; there is no other choice.

No sir, I don't reach for the supernatural.

I may have misunderstood your statement. I'm skeptical of British Academician contribution to the sciences similar to my contempt of debauched behavior in U.S. Academia.

Is the necessity of nature explanation of religion attributed to evolution a certainty?

Could you rephrase that in language that is comprehensible.

Do you think there are moral reasons to legislate religion or aspects of religion illicit?
