Anti-abortion-rights lobbyists talk about how a fetus reacts to pain.
So what? An earthworm reacts to pain. Do they plan to make fishing with live bait illegal?
A reflexive response by the nervous system proves nothing about the humanity or development of the fetus. People in persistent vegetative states can also show a pain response. A cow responds to pain; how many of those activists (I'm guessing precious few) are vegetarians?
Their ideas have nothing to do with science, and nothing to do with the sanctity of life. They're simply grasping every straw they can reach to try and "prove" that a human fetus is "a person from conception", which is a meaningless concept. Do they mean that from the moment of conception, that zygote can compose a symphony, do math, play tic tac toe? Or do they mean that it has the potential to do these things? In that case, every sperm and every egg has the potential, and the next step is banning birth control.
But then again, that's where some want to go anyway, I'm sure.
Republicans want to keep women subordinate, barefoot and pregnant. It's about power over women.
Although, just for the record, I will welcome anyone who wants to come over and be barefoot, but that's by HER choice.
Foot rubs are offered.
Not only that, the rape exceptions that some laws have make it clear that their real purpose is to punish women for having sex because they like to. The so-called baby's ability to experience pain has nothing to do with how it was conceived.
And by the way, most of the states passing these laws have very high infant mortality rates and the lowest ranking schools, so it's pretty clear they care nothing for babies & children. These same states are also willing to sacrifice school kids' lives to protect the rights of gun owners...
