'Revolution' in Poland as nation confronts priestly abuse
Ireland, the most Catholic country in the world until recently, went through exactly the same shock about ten or twelve years ago. It rocked the whole foundations of the State to its very core, and has heralded sweeping changes of attitude to religious belief and the Catholic Church. They no longer have much influence over public opinion, and this has led to the old conservative views of divorce, abortion and same sex relationships being swept away. Ireland has come out of the darkness of the Middle Ages and is now a forward looking, progressive country. My hope is that the same thing will happen in Poland, now that the disgusting practices and hypocrisy of the RC Church have been exposed.
I've always found Poland to be more Catholic and many other things. They were the only Warsaw Pact country to have chaplains - Catholic priests of course. A strong Catholicism survived many years of communism. I can only imagine how hidden the abuse was in the communism days, when the government paid the salaries.
@Beowulfsfriend I shudder to think!
