If you aren’t familiar with Recovering from Religion I highly recommend checking them out.
I just started volunteering for the helpline and took my first chat tonight and it was an incredibly positive experience.
They have great resources for those leaving or dealing with the scars of religion.
They also have a secular therapy project that helps you find a therapist that won’t end your session with a prayer.

Do you know if there are similar organisations in the UK?
Kudos for you. I need to look into doing something like that.
GOOD FOR YOU! Thanks for doing that,.,I'll bet it feels good to help! Tell me about your clients,,who are they?
It’s pretty much anyone who wants to talk about their doubts or their journey out of religion. The goal is to listen and provide peer support.
@GwenBFree Again--good for you (and those clients!)
I am flabbergasted that such a service would be needed, but maybe only in the US.
Actually, there is quite a bit of need across the planet, the services are available for anyone leaving a strict faith whether it be christianity, judaism, muslim or other groups. There are still many countries where it is illegal to be an atheist.
I have a few friends from Australia and they also experienced such a low key emphasis from religion that they were surprised by atheist activity in the US.
Is there a service of any kind to those overseas like Australia?
There are some secular therapists listed in other countries, currently I see Canada, UK, South Africa and Australia listed.
The 800 number is just for US calls, but the chat line is available world wide.
