I happen to agree with all 7 Tenets of The Satanic Temple, according to them if you do, BOOM!!! I’m instantly a Satanist. Any thoughts? Discuss!
I guess that makes me a Satanist too. For those who asked here they are:
THERE ARE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS.
-One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
-The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
-One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
-The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.
-Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.
People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
_Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.
Don't get too hung up on the title, Satanist. They invoke the image of a symbol of rebellion against god and freedom from religious oppression. They don't believe in or worship the devil.
@powder These aren't mandatory. Satanism is somewhat like a religion in form. If you want to be part of it you accept the terms. They don't proselytize or indoctrinate people. I like that they stand up to Christian hypocrisy and support the separation of church and state.
Personally, I prefer "One should," which sounds more like a suggestion to me, to "Thou Shalt" which leaves no doubt about its intent.
Finally, I only posted the tenets because a couple people including you requested them. While I personally agree with them, I'm not a Satanist and am not interested in debating them.
I agree, to some extent, with parts of the 10 commandments and that doesn't make me: Jewish; Christian; Muslim. I prefer Carlin's reduction down to two though.
Like Powder says - post them.
That idea of a group just making you one of them is too reminiscent to the Mormons baptizing dead people.
